A Tale of Two Aunts 2-F

This Christmas, a memory surfaced of two aunts from my childhood.
One aunt taught me acceptance and approval; the other aunt taught me
forgiveness and how to 'Let It Go'.

Experiences with them remind me of God who does not allow his disapproval
of our sinful nature and behavior to render void his acceptance of us through
the power of His love and forgiveness. He looked beyond our faults and saw
our need. In a very real sense, He 'Let It Go' by placing all of our sins upon
His son, Jesus.

Aunt Roberta was strong. She gave respect to everyone and demanded
respect from same. I knew her through the first 13 years of my life until
she moved 2000 miles away after my father's passing. The greatest lesson
learned from her was totally different from that of aunt Rena*. No, she did
not sat me down and give me instructions like a school teacher, but her actions and the intent of her heart planted a lasting seed in my young heart that has served me tremendously throughout my life.

Aunt Roberta taught me the essence of interpersonal relationships and interactions with people. She taught me by her actions the meaning of forgiveness and the practical reality of 'Letting It Go'. In the course of human events, we will be wronged by others, some of whom will never change nor acknowledge us as worthy of their respect. Aunt Roberta taught me that in such situations, there is but one thing to do-'Let It Go'.
