I control my thoughts

A grueling midday hush
The silent truth, revealed
Acute, unwelcome touch
I resent the way it feels

At war inside my mind
A self destructive fight
 I stay 10 steps behind
Great howl with little bite

Flawed from outside in
Plagued by potent shame
Relief defined by sin
The burden of the blame

An unrelenting clatter
Judgement, filled whispers
You ask me, “what’s the matter”
Why can’t you see the blisters

I’m reminded, once again
That I control my thoughts
A debate I’ll never win
Now I’ll do as I was taught
