Paracosm

Dive in head first, my frost queen
Suffering between the narrow walls of the ravine
Medusa or machine?
There is no between
Turn me to stone or write me off in code
But before I leave unwillingly,
I'll remind myself that you all but crucified me
under a swinging chandelier flickering morse code for “no mercy”
Hold a pencil and a textbook to my throat
And maybe then I’ll learn
I’m blowing oxygen on weak matches
And asking why I’m doing all the work
For smoke clouds in return
Reinventing the wheel
To set my tracks deep into this learning curve
While hills crumble behind me
But the view is still obscured
Showers of acid
Leave it to me to swallow the poison so you're ensured a safer exit
I'm blowing oxygen into the other end of the breathing mask
And wondering why I'm losing consciousness

I'm ticking off the days a calendar at a time
Scratching through my leg skin like a lottery ticket I refuse not to win
Rub your hands together and call it warmth
But how come I saw you clawing for the ice sheet you were just crawling towards
Everything must crystalize
Tears freeze on your cheek and numb the nerves
That once told you, you were too weak
Like these half broken matches I keep finding
Lighting up my fingers and blowing hot air on the tips
And wondering why I'm losing all my energy
For black ash and blue lips
Well I remember radiating your only source of light that you now scorn
But I forgot that you don’t need me
Rub your hands together and call it warmth
