Compulsive Expenses - Are How Women Fall
[Compulsive Expenses (Are How Women Fall)]
There it is, completely harmless
The blouse you’ve always wanted
That comes with the pleated skirt
And complimenting wedge shoes.
It’s the designer purse that costs more than the outfit
And the jewelry that accessorizes.
The naked body has been helped by apparel
Now come the other preparations.
The hair style that figures the appropriate face
It’s the nails that later get in the way of day to day function
And the artificial tan that hides any trace of family background
Then the convenience of forgetting troubles through massage.
The end of day approaches
Satisfied by life’s simple pleasures
Café latte just before the snack to bed
Overlooking the checkbook
Just half-passed dead
Smothered in losses
Left with empty pockets
Beaten by the addiction
Ah, the woman’s conviction.
