Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

This blog is to inform you that I'm going to sponsor a collaboration contest. Please choose a writing partner WISELY; one you admire and who will be open-minded to ideas. It would be a bad experience for one of you to have the attitude of "it's my way or no way."

I have recently written poems with Ralph Sergi and Teddy Kimathi and had great fun writing with these two awesome poets. Writing with one person is totally different from the many limerick collaborations. It's a joint effort to write a poem based on one theme and have it read coherently. I just want everyone to have a positive experience and have fun doing it!

Spaces in the contest will be limited as I will ask for both poets to submit the poem to the contest so that they can both be placed

Jan ,this is a great idea. Having written with many great poets here, I can honestly say that I truly enjoyed and learned with each of those great poet/poetess. Our triple collab, a very long and deep poem , with Teppo and Vlad was a wonderful experience and they each were truly great to compose with.

The idea is not unique as their have been similar contests in the past. I have such fun in collaborating both with a single poet but also the impromptu limerick collaborations where other people just add their verses for fun:-) I hope you take part Robert, it will be interesting to see who people choose to write with:-) hugs jan xx

Choose wisely Jo - I have had some fabulous collaborations recently but in the past some have been disasters - it was 'their way or no way' and I was either not happy with the poems that were written or they never got posted. Ask someone whose poetry you enjoy reading and you think they will be easy to work with and the writing will be fun. My idea is not new I entered a collaboration contest here and ending up writing with Darren Watson as Jadazzle United - sadly we no longer are in contact but oh boy we had such fun when we wrote as we shared a similar sense of humour:-) hugs jan xx

No the contest isn't up yet and as it seems to be holiday time I thought I would give people fair chance to ask someone to collaborate with them, when I first wanted to write with Darren Watson for a collaboration he was away for about ten days so I asked someone else, then Darren came back and wanted to write with me so I wrote with 2 guys but as you know I had an incredible time writing with Darren and he spurred me on to believe in myself and we had such fun writing together:-) I will leave it for a while before I post the actual contest :-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Lin I am so interested to seeing the pairings of poets. I have had some wonderful people to write with especially Darren Watson - we wrote over 30 poems together. the first poem we wrote together had the first stanza changed slightly, only about 6 words were changed in the other poems - have also had some more challenging collabs and some of the poems never saw the light of day or I was never happy with the finished poem. Writing with Teddy and Ralph was wonderful!:-) hugs jan xx
