I Met Death Today

I met Death today
And I know he came for me
Yet ev’ry single troubled thought
And Death,
Didn’t quite agree.

I met Death today
With tears within my eyes
No way forward and no way back
This life I now despise.

As I sat with Death today
With a will to not exist
I thought of who would find me dead
I thought by whom I would be missed

I began to think of others’ thoughts
Anguished friends and family tears
My ear, my help, my shoulder gone
My problems gone,
But passed to them for years.

I met Death today,
And I know we’ll meet again
But that will be in natures time
Because my last gift will not be pain.
