Fictional Poem for Poetry Contest Sponsored by Andrea Dietrich 08/18/24

Confined to my home, night and day, housed like a prisoner for twenty years. My Agoraphobia will never go away. Dark thoughts trigger copious tears, I’m terrified of leaving these walls of gray.

Loved this one. Gosh, I had almost given it second place. If this were a contest simply on a phobia, this would have taken top prize! Congrats to you

Agoraphobia is crippling. The fear of being submerged in the Agora, the center of Greek city life, would savage a person for years and maybe ostracize them forever. Sad and cruel. At least you have your English garden and published poop! :o))

I've heard of this illness which usually follows a traumatic event in a person's life. It would be horrible to feel that fearful of going outside to enjoy nature. Thanks for sharing your contest entry with us. It reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

A wonderful poem Jan, it's quite incredible how powerful the mind is and how we can become a prisoner/slave to it, even when to others it's totally illogical. If you entered good luck in the contest. Danny much hugs x

Nice take on fear - frightful and sad. That was me for a little while after COVID, but not anymore.

That's quite a name for fear. I love my home because it's a sanctuary, but I cannot imagine living as though imprisoned there of my own fear. Good entry, Jan.

It's a terrible condition Jan, well captured in your verse. We take so much for granted, doing everyday things that others struggle with. Tom
