Stop the Abuse

Why do we let the people who supposedly love us, abuse us?
Abuse has many forms but the most insidious is verbal
Physical pain is forgotten but the spoken word has a great impact on our minds
We are constantly put down, told we are useless, nasty things said by someone who says they love us.
Abuse is not only against women and children
Many men are also in abusive situations
Many of us feel it is all our fault, that we caused it
Any type of abuse should be addressed, we need to stop hiding it and let the world know that we have a worth and that we don't deserve to be constantly hurt by those who say they love us.
We need to stand up for ourselves and our families, but we also need to help friends
who we suspect are in abusive relationships
We need to make a stand and stop the hurting.
I know of what I write because I lived it as did my family.
I was one of the lucky ones.
Others are often not as fortunate
We need to make a difference and make abuse a thing of the past.

I know all about abuse. The first seventeen years of my life I was mistaken for a piñata. There was also the mental abuse. I don't know why but it had a strange effect on me. I insisted on reaching out to the abusers and I am proud to say that I had some success. Great write. Congratulations on your poem being chosen as poem of the day.

Very wise words Mama Bear. Almost everyone has been a victim in one way or another so we can all relate to this.

Ok, I just read your prose on abuse. You are so right. it's probably the most insidious thing bringing down our society. How our family treats us determines how we treat our own new family in turn. It's a downward spiral except for the few who can learn not to pass it on to the next generation. Glad to see you are one of those.

thanks for your comment at Cowboy hoe down. I took square dance at my school, grade school. I always had to take the part of a boy because we did not have enough boys signed up for the programs we put on for our parents. I really love square dancing and wish I could do it again!

Not sure if you are American but have cousins in Ohio that still go to square dancing a couple of times the month. It was fun and I can see why they go. Need a partner though Thanks for visiting Blessings Edith
