Raindrops 2 Contest Sponsored by JCB Brul - 07/02/24

Fictional poem for contest

Brooding nimbus darken the sky suddenly clouds burst Rain drops thunder down then subside to a gentle pitter patter on the Perspex conservatory roof I watch as raging rivulets of rain run down the windows and hear the old drains gurgling at the deluge of water I peer outside as the pitter pattering ceases to see the sun She’s playing peek a boo from behind a cloud Huge puddles have formed on the stone flags Millie, my young granddaughter grabs my hand “Come on grandma, grab your wellies” she giggles “Let’s go out and jump in the puddles”.. And so we did!

Jan, you're making me smile. It's great to be a kid and to be able to derive joy from these simple acts. There's still a kid in me and still smiling!

This is such a lovely read dear Jan. It’s so atmospheric and draws you in. I love the imagery of the rain pouring down the windows ( we had torrential rain last night with a thunderstorm) Your little granddaughter sounds gorgeous - little ones bring out the child in us. The pure innocence of this delightful poem is so touching. Really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing. Hugs and smiles :):)

Jan, I enjoyed every one of your free verse lines. I have splashed in puddles with my granddaughter, Eloise. "Come on, Nana. Let's play in the rain!" I feel like she's almost as much yours as she is mine, since you ask for pictures of her all the time. lol And now Grace can be yours, too. Brennan has been for 8 years, and they'd love you as much as I do. Hugs!

A great poem for the contest. As children we often play, splashing our puddles.

charming and delightful, jan! you almost fooled me, though - i was trying to remember you talking about a grandchild, but then realized in your response to a comment that, duh, poems can be fiction, too! (guess i never write those...)
