Whilst there is some poetic licence in the poem this actually happened to me when i joined soup back in 2014 and it it hadn't been for supportive poets i would have given up!

A poetry virgin... that was me going through a purple patch, a dismal dark period in life Desperately needing an outlet to focus on instead of the now... this trying time I had to endure I joined Poetry Soup to have fun My ultimate aim was just to bring a smile to others. But 'HE' couldn’t stand the fact that what I called my simple scribbles were more popular than his sonnets... He considered himself a poetry God and me? He referred to me as just a pathetic poet, penning poop So, the belittling of my poems, and the cruel comments about them began He was SO desperate to be top dog, even challenging me to a poetry duel. The tide of his anger turned against me as if they were waves trying to crush me. He was obsessed with putting me down, drowning me in his wake. I was at an all-time low ebb in life Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. My notepad scribbles were smudged, stained with the torrent of my tears My pen bled ink blots like blood, then dried up like a creek devoid of rain. For seven dismally long days, I wrote nothing. BUT powerful persuasion from poetry pals forced me to face the reality I needed to see. "Why should you allow that puffed up pompous prick to stop you from writing what you feel?" That was a wakeup call for me. More than just a change in the wind. Eleven years have passed; I am STILL here... with two books published under my name. There are still trolls who like to torment and demean me, I will never, EVER... give another troll the opportunity to do me in!

Jan, you just keep doing what you are doing and pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! The fact that you ruffle a few feathers is actually a good thing. No topic is off limits and I appreciate your take on all aspects of life. We don't need to take him or them too seriously since life needs to be a pleasure for you and all of your fans here!!! I feel very lucky to be one of them. SMILES!!

No one has the right to troll or demean anyone's work, trolls are everywhere as we often see, even on here. They think they are gods gift to poetry, sooner or later their true colours are evident to everyone.. Every dog has its day and he's had his.. Write on Jan.. Tom

yeah he sure thought he was a poetry god/aficionado but his 'attention' was uncalled for. I was at a difficult time in my life when i joined and I only wrote again after friends told me not to let him win. hugs Jan x

Jan, you're such an asset to Poetry Soup. If you'd not picked up your pen to continue writing we'd never have had so many reasons to smile and laugh at your humous writes, no matter the topic. No puffed-up pompous prick or wicked witch will ever give you cause to lay down your pen.

Thanks Lin, it was so cathartic to write this and without the contest it would never have been written, Life sucks at times, it throws us curved balls we are free to write on what themes we like and not be dictated to by blowhards. hugs jan xx

Well done Jan, I recently received a foul comment on a poem I wrote. I should have left it for all to see, but I deleted the poem and blocked the person from commenting on my poetry, she will never do it to me again. I have kept a copy of the comment she wrote, even though I could not forget her words… Beryl

aww Beryl so sorry you have been targeted. I have one really nasty comment on a poem but I left it there for all to see in fact it empowered me to write more humour! hugs jan xx

Alas it would seem that he missed the scoop....that humor had widened the poetic hoop....and that at the core....even when on the floor....there is something quite funny 'bout poop...glad you survived the s**t storm....
