Smile

Smile, don't let the day get you down.
Smile, it's much easier than frown.
Greet the morning with your laughter.
Know that dreams may still come true.
     Pray for happy ever after,
For your neighbor and for you.

Smile, share it with the world outside.
Smile, dry the tears that have been cried.
Be a ray of hope that's shining,
Like a beacon in the night.
     You're an architect designing,
Ways to fill the dark with light.

Smile, give a hand to those in need.
Smile, Gently watering love's seed.
Your life is music, sing it's song.
Shout it from the mountain top.
Invite the world to sing along.
     The melody will never stop.

Smile, it's a gift you have to give.
Smile, it's the only way to live.
JUST SMILE!

Enjoyed your poem on SMILE, Robert. I am a lover of smiles; hence resonate with your words. What I enjoyed most are: Greet the morning with your laughter. Know that dreams may still come true. Pray for happy ever after, For your neighbor and for you. God bless.

In my office job I used to take the mail to the post office ever night at a certain time. One day I was delayed and was standing in line behind a very tall man and I heard the guy behind the counter say to his colleague 'has she been in yet - 'the elfin one who is always smiling' - Oh how he blushed when he realised I was there - it made my day and I'm still smiling despite trauma in my life! I try and smile at most things Robert and I love to try and make people laugh or smile at my poems. My life is tough at the moment with dad terminally ill yet at his 90th party on Saturday the smiles never left our faces. Hugs Jan xxx

It feels good to know that our smiles are making a difference, Jan. Just from reading your poetry I bet you are always smiling. I decided quite a few years back that I had no right to project my negative feelings or attitude on to others. I smile at all that I come in contact with. They almost always smile back. Our smile can change the world.... Robert.

I really enjoyed writing this one, Faye. I believe a smile is one of God's greatest gifts to us, Because it can convey so much without a word. Hope it made you smile..... Robert.

this is so sweet and happy a poem. I think there is a song of this title too, right? I have to get to work, but I wanted to thank you for saying you would read my sonnets. Are you sure? I must have at least 150 of them here. the other half still in my files! No I don't talk in ten syllable sentences but that seems to be my way in poetry. Put up some more poems, right away!!!

So glad you are back with comments, Andrea. I'm happy you enjoyed this one. Charlie Chaplin wrote a song by this title. Your sonnets are great and I love that meter. Thanks for your encouragement and I will post more poems soon.... Robert.
