Notes About The Poem

Animals Contest Sponsored by Constance la France 01/16/25

Even though I have an allegry to animal fur I was never affected by 'Poshy' as she was known by the family.

Precious Pussycat

"Rainbow bridge is her final resting place, only paw prints in my heart remain of earth" Quote by Poet
Our cute family cat was called Poshpaws She’d leave ‘gifts’ of dead mice in our house After killing her victim with razor sharp claws We’d discover the remains of the poor mouse And would often hear my mother grouse! Poshpaws followed dad round like a dog But she’d never get under his feet She’d bask in the sun curled upon a log Watching him trim the lawn to make it neat The joys of cat life were certainly sweet! But Poshpaws developed a double life Sometimes missing for twenty four hours She’d found a second home causing us strife But old photographs proved that she was ours Car accident killed her, both 'owners' laid flowers

This is such a fine write about the best cat name I've ever heard! You definitely give us a great feel about your cat; especially the double life which I've never thought about before.

Jan, this is a heart-wrenching tale. Some animals are quite smart. I was listening to an NPR story about Alex the parrot, which is worth searching for, and it details how a pet can be a huge part of our life. In the end, it could be remarkable and you capture it so well here. Thanks for bringing this emotional and lovely poem/story to our attention.

Congrats on the win, Jan. Sounds like she was the sweetest cat. My wife and I have owned a total of seven over the years (we have 2 now). They always will have a special place in our hearts. Take care. J

Beautifully written, Jan! You’ve really captured what was so special about this cat and I love the ending, with both “owners” feelings sad…

- I've never had a cat... but, no matter what pet they become part of the family... it hurts terribly to lose them, Jan :) - hugs

Poshy was the last pet we had as a family. My son would have loved us to have a pet but my allergy to fur prevented this - strange how I wasn't allergic to this cat though! hugs jan xx

They certainly become part of the family Jan and leave a void when they're gone. You always remember them. Tom

Its odd how I wasn't allergic to 'poshy' as she was called but she spent a lot of time outdoors and slept on my sisters bed. She followed dad around and he wasn't that bothered about cats but he came to love her. hugs Jan xx

The loss of a cat causes deep grieving. I had a cat that traded me. I also had a lot of dogs which I believe is why he chose the other person. Attention. They love it.
