Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

Some Manx cats do not have tails

The Laxey Wheel (also known as Lady Isabella) is a large waterwheel built into the hillside above the village of Laxey in the Isle of Man. Designed by Robert Casement, the wheel has a 72-foot-6-inch (22.1 m) diameter, is 6 feet (1.83 m) wide and revolves at approximately three revolutions per minute.

We still have steam trains which are a great tourist attraction

The famous TT races are held every year in June. Racing take place on the 37 mile course which is on open roads - it is considered the ultimate challenge by many bikers

We have wonderful scenery

Travel on our steam railway and step back in time

Historic village at Cregneash it really is divine

Enjoy traditional Manx seafood the ’Queenies’ are sublime

Irish Sea surrounds us with its beautiful coastal paths and craggy cliffs

Sandy beaches see sunbathers and swimmers in the sunshine

 ‘Lady Isabella’ Laxey’s waterwheel leaves you breathless by its size

Endless rolling green hills and wide-open spaces, it’s a walker’s paradise

Open roads to drive on with no speed limits in some places

Fly here or sail and escape to our far-flung shores

Motorcycles whiz around the famous TT course

Amazing scenery delights with breathtaking views

Nowhere on earth I would rather live!

Loved being introduced to your wonderful Isle of Man, Jan. Apart from the beauty of the place I was fascinated by the Manx cat which has no tail! Maybe you could host a contest on " How the cat lost it's Tail!" And do you speak Manx (or y Ghaelg, y Ghailck?) How does English Manx differ from the Queen's English or US English? Just curious. ~karam~

Thanks Karam - I speak a smattering of words of Manx but my son did take a qualification in it when he was at school but we have never heard him speak in Manx lol. They have cats with stumpy tails and no tails at all - hmm a contest could be interesting could see some fun poems! :-) hugs Jan xx

Its a tiny little Island Andrea population is about 80,000 but that has risen by about 50% at the moment as its TT - all those leather clad men - its hell but I suffer in silence lol:-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, my son was conceived in Laxey :-) My girlfriend lived on the island for a year, and I visited often from Liverpool. The flight was a mere 20 minutes :-) The island puts me in mind of the Lake District, lovely place.

Made me smile lenny - when we lived in Birmingham we used to love going on coach tours to Bruges - best chocolate (especially the liquer cherries) I have ever had - oh we must return there one day it is such a picturesque place:-) hugs Jan xx

Beautiful it most certainly is. When I left the island for the last time it was by water, a four hour sail. I do like travelling across waters :-) In my younger years I would spend my school summer holidays in Belgium, as my mother was born there. The best chocs, beer and cakes :-)
