I Need To Feel

Please
Please don't tell me how to feel
Allow me my sorrow
Let me cry for just a while
My heart needs to feel it's broken

I do not desire to be the strong one
Answers may never come
Still there is comfort in my silence
I reach into a place you cannot see
You are blinded by your knowing

Your strength can be a weakness
Blocking anothers compassion
I am not seeking answers to questions
Please allow me to be
Let me cry for a bit longer

Within my broken
I allow God to fill the spaces
I trust Him with the answers
He whispers within my solitude
There is a strange comfort in not knowing

So today
I cry for my friend
I feel his loss
His worry
The devastation of not knowing
The fear of the approaching battle

I wish to listen
Act if required
Cheer for him
Celebrate his spirit
Hold his hand
Cry, laugh
Live in his moment
I will not
I promise not
To tell him how to feel

I faved this one, Rick. This is so emotional and as real as it gets...."I'm not seeking answers...just allow me to be broken for a time.

It takes strength to admit, and share one's heart.....crying is never a weakness when it shows deep compassion and such caring. Wonderful poetry!

I can feel the real emotion coming through in these lines. This poem was written straight from the heart and the soul.... Sometimes, it is much easier to write about how we feel, instead of actually saying what is on our minds.... Beautifully expressed, Richard!

Oh Richard...we just need someone to hold us when we cry. We don't need answers...just someone to hold on to. I hope this person knows that God is holding him...and that you are by his side. my thoughts are with you.

So true, few people recognize the healing power of just being with someone. I appreciate your thoughtful and gentle response.

This poem filled my eyes with tears..I have a friend who just won the battle with cancer, two other friends still fighting the battle,my husband has two close relatives fighting the battle too..So whilst I read your poem,I said..I can't tell you how to feel, like you can't tell your friend, but I can tell you,you are not alone ,and just being there in silence and prayer grant comfort and the miracle of feeling better.Profound and Sentimental Richard.

I neglected to say I am glad your friend won his battle. That news offers much hope. Knowing I am not alone does offer comfort although I would prefer to be alone because that would mean others would not be having to deal with the effects of this horrible affliction. Thanks for your prayers and thoughtful soup mail.

It seems in these last few years we have had so many of our friends afflicted with cancer. Two with breast cancer, one brain cancer, three with throat cancer and two with skin cancer. My dad had passed away of lung cancer at 56 my step dad passed away 3 years ago from Bladder cancer. This disease touches so many lives.

He is so so lucky Richard to have someone like you as his friend - we all need people in our lives to share not only the good times, but the bad too. I particularly like these words. 'I do not desire to be the strong one Answers may never come Still there is comfort in my silence I reach into a place you cannot see You are blinded by your knowing. Hugs jan xxx

I am the lucky one because I can witness true courage. I am also able to witness a living faith in the midst of his storm. A big hug back to you Jan.
