Sad situation isnt it, there are few suicides by guns here I have only read of one they find other ways to end their lives here usually found hanging - one by the local play area:-( such desperation to end a life in such a way. hugs Jan xx

Your poem is psychotic perfect. I don't know if there are suicides in Malta because such events are not published so as not to encourage the feeble souls. Hugs.

I can understand the reason behind not disclosing the information but on our little Island bad news travels fast:-( hugs jan xx

One in four of us will have varying degrees of mental health issues in our lives and yet much of the public shy away from discussing or learning about such. Your senryu is a timely reminder Jan of debilitating conditions such as depression etc that can have serious consequences if help is not sought. I think these days are a great idea but would love awareness day every day of the year. Nice work. Cheers - Gary

You have no idea how touching this poem is, you would be shocked even to know, I read another poem about depression as well, by chance and couldn't believe the insensitive comment of one. Some never learn, but that's beside the point, this poem is a gem and maybe even preformed a miracle.

aww thanks Arthur, I too am shocked by insensitive comments, but thankfully none on this particular poem, it is such an emotive subject and heartbreaking for those left behind wondering... what if, if only I had ... :-( hugs jan xx

Excellent advice -- truly we all "get by with a little help from friends" -- phrase of the day: "be a friend to someone today".

Impromptu act might be able to help but there are some that are chronic, sadly, like my dear sweet nephew… You learn much. Well done, dear Jan

Depression is a terrible illness that haunts the mind and spirit. You've done those who suffer with it a great service with your Senryu, Jan. Well done.

Thanks for dropping by Lin, it is a dark poem for me and I was struggling to write for the contest then found it was national Suicide prevention Day. We have a service on the island Called Isle Listen, they have helped many who have suffered with depression and suicidal thoughts. Hugs jan xx

Have you ever heard anybody say "I'm a cancer surviver." ? Well I'm a depression surviver. Three years of torture. A man told me I'll get over it. And when I hit rock bottem I spoke with God. Spoken with God. Spoke to God.

wow The situation that is wonderful to hear you are a depression survivor .. sadly many are not and the suicide rate on our little Island went up during the covid pandemic especially with men... and it is continuing to rise. My hubby has had cancer i(n fact it's the reason i started writing ten years ago), he doesn't call himself a cancer survivor though as we were determined it wouldn't beat him! hugs Jan xx

That's wonderful, TS. Thanks for sharing your plight. Too many people don't comprehend the seriousness of depression. It's not a thing easily overcome.
