I'd borrowed Pa’s umbrella
to shelter from the rain,
alas one spoke is now broken
I’m scared that Pa’s will go insane!
My best friend Jacques was with me
when there was a sudden squall,
I tried to hold onto the umbrella
but it crashed hard against a wall.
So Jacques is walking by my side
and he will take me to my door,
he’ll tell Pa HE broke the umbrella -
he’s covered my back once before!
He knows Pa’s got a terrible temper
but Pa is friendly with Jacques dad,
who is the senior village policeman
so Pa won’t dare do anything bad!
I’ve not told my Pa my secret
Jacques is my first boyfriend,
he won’t let my Pa cause trouble
on Jacques I can always depend.
