Lines taken from Owl see you written in 2016, part of which was printed by Cambridge university press in a book for students with English as a second language

I mainly venture out at night For I really am quite shy Many people don’t even see me For I don’t make a noise when I fly My head can turn 270 degrees So my eyesight is extremely good Under cover of dark I lurk in the shadows So you may not see me in the wood I have two enormous eyes to see my prey My face is shaped like a heart I have a beak instead of a nose I swoop on a mouse like a dart I am a master of clever disguise My feathers can camouflage me You may not even be aware I’m there I can blend in with the bark of a tree

This is terrific. Years ago the New York City Christmas tree came from a town near Albany New York. A person helping with it's display found an owlet inside. This find lead to dozens of children's books being written as you can imagine. You describe the owl so perfectly, his skills, his appearance, and his ability to be clever. I enjoyed your poem so much Jan.

I'm lucky Tania, when I was growing up there was a family of 5 owls living in the enormous tree between us and our neighbours, The science teacher used to go and observe them during his lunch break - few people even knew they were there they were so well camouflaged:-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, this poem and photo blend so well together. I once was going to be an ornithologist but got sidetracked in my studies. I believe you know Maureen McGreavy... She's an avid birder. I hope she sees this contest and submits something. Best of luck with this Jan
