HAIKU MASTERS

I wanted to see if we could start a discussion. I wrote this poem (see below) after watching a T.V. program, Haiku Masters (see link at end of this blog). The discussion is about the subtleties of a haiku, how you will not necessarily understand the haiku and it leads to discussion of what you think about it or what you bring to it. In the program they also pair up the haiku with a photo. I just happened upon this show yesterday and was giddy (lol). So what I am looking for, as comments, for purposes of this blog, is a discussion. (If you like the poem, you can comment in my poetry section). But here, let’s just talk about what you think about, or see, in relation to this haiku and if you would like to add ONE of your favorite haikus for discussion, please do. I hope we have fun with this! :)

I'm just guessing but could it be restoration or recycling of leftover materials? wrote this one several years ago.. colored foil floats to wind’s un-choreographed dance - un-noticed en masse

Or just the unused materials..for what use...is there a use? Are we? :) i like your free floating foil..so many images...like a cloud. Comparisons can be made to our two poems. Thanks, Joseph!

Hmm...let me share some thoughts on this blog of yours Kim, basically, when writing haiku, the importance of phrase and fragment is there. Like the first or third line should stand alone (fragment) while the other two lines are joined grammatically (phrase). And also consider the contrast of the two images. Ever heard the juxtaposition? Thanks much, moon flower! I did try studying haiku writing on another sight. I became bored and frustrated. I guess I am rebelling against the traditional haiku (for myself).

Here are two of my favourites(translation of Japanese masters) Kim, the first by Shiki ' Everyone's gone home/The fireworks are over/How dark it has become...the second by Basho 'Rainy season /and the cranes legs/have grown shorter

Love the images, Brian! Blasts of thought! I love brief poems. So much to take in. We can relate to Shiki's poem for today's terrorism sends people into the dark. The celebration nixed. Thanks for the share!
