Generations Sing Songs

Generations sing songs Long after the apple Gifted pleasure and pain Unraveling ripe notes Driving lovers insane Generations sing songs Of whiskey beards touching The dirty old man earth Chasing long and short skirts And those who just gave birth Generations sing songs Waves driven East and West Firestorm raging in hearts In rift children born with Homely, disheveled parts Generations sing songs The apple rebounding Track the Edenic ball Birdsong from tree to tree Salving after The Fall

Thank you, Karen! I know what you mean about formats. I have a hard time for example writing a pastoral poem.

Kim, you're making me think about the commonality of emotion and experiences throughout time. I agree with you that we there is a repetition like a song that we all get to sing for a while in our turn. There is a lot we do to feel good...and we who do are very lucky denizens of this place.

I love that you take the time to ponder, and that you can enjoy the generational round of song. Thank you, Duke!

Loved the use of the repetitive first line for each stanza. You meditate on life. Very well done even if life is sometimes life is dark. Hugs.

We poets must tell the truth, dig into the hidden and dark. Blessings!

I wish I had a musical family. I guess there is both good and bad in all circumstances. An interesting write.

I was about to say I don’t have a musical family but we did grow up with Dad taking out his clarinet from time to time, he played tunes for me as a grownup too. We also had an Hammond organ in our house which my Dad built. Never did much with it all but it was still fun.

I was so lucky to have had a singing family and gifted songs even my grandpa, born in the late 1800's used to sing, and you remind me, I need to pass them on to my children and grandchildren. We used to have sing alongs at all our family gatherings when I was young, and especially when my first five kids were growing up, but not so much anymore. Your poem touched my heart with memories, such a lovely poem. Song is a balm to us amidst the trials long after the fall in Eden, through joy or pain.

generations sing songs...yes, they do...those songs seem to focus on the same themes of love, loss, etc. Songs in that sense connect one generation to the next. I liked this poem!

Dear Kim, This is a powerful poem that explores the enduring nature of human experience through song. You gather together diverse themes - love, desire, loss, and renewal - with captivating imagery. The repeated line "Generations sing songs" acts as a unifying thread, highlighting the power of music to carry memories and emotions across time. The contrasting themes of pleasure and pain, create a dynamic and evocative journey. T he final image of "birdsong" offers a sense of hope and healing, suggesting that even after "The Fall," beauty and renewal can be found. Kim, this thought-provoking and beautifully crafted poem! - Blessings, Daniel
