It's Great To Be Alive

Wrinkles and gray hair get me in a rage and I say to myself, “Why don't you act your age!" My poor aching feet remind me to wear sensible shoes but these black stilettos take away the blues. . I wear glasses to see but they're tinted green and make me look cool and mean. I have a million pills to swallow and sometimes I think my head is hollow. I forget my keys, my purse and my coat. Where in the hell did I put that remote? Once I was so limber I could touch my toes but I refuse to talk about my ills and woes. When pouring the tea if my hands shake I simply say, "Another earthquake!" What was I thinking When I bought that new car? My old one was fine. It just couldn’t go far. I’d go on a trip if it weren’t for my hip. Maybe I'll give up drinking. Well, I’ll just take a sip. Okay, I’ll take my pills for all my ills. I’ll take a walk around the block but I will not wear those damn compression socks! Well, I guess I’ll hang in there as long as I can just to see my grands build castles in the sand. I'll exercise each day while in my head I’ll say, “I still feel like I’m only twenty-five. Thank God, it’s great to be alive!” By: Carole O’Terry Duet Copyright: 6/20/2020 “All Rights Reserved”

Ah..such is life.. I guess we should all try to age gracefully :)) and grey is the new black. It's somewhat cathartic to read how I am feeling, Carole. May you stay blessed. Sam :)

Carol I just re-visited your Great to Be Alive write and chuckled all over again. I didn't realize after my first read that you were pretty much covering all of we "seniors". Thanks again for a very enjoyable write. George.

This is an excellent post and poem, my sister of God's grace, Carole. I love the flow of the words and the impact of the message. The descriptive excellence is lovely. The theme great, and tenor move the piece along with much grace. We actually get younger each day. Great job! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53812816-sincerely-speaking-spiritually.

Sometimes I wonder if death would be considered a reprieve from all of the aches and pains of aging. I did however enjoy reading this humorous poem Carole.

It would appear that you and I, dear Carole...are in same boat. Thanks for making me lol. Elinae

This could have come right out of my head because it is as if you put your hand in my mind and drew my feelings out.

Unfortunately I can relate with most of this. Your humorous spin and clever writing is refreshing, especially with this topic, Carole. I will remember this in days to come. A favorite for me.

Hi Carole, this is such a wonderful write. Never change, you definitely have the proper attitude to growing older. I could never tip my toes so I am laughing, mind you, I can't get down as far as I once did. Be happy, whatever age you are. Mind you, in reading, I think i should take more excercise. I love the content of this write Carole. Have a wonderful Thursday. Hugs....MIke. XX. Have to Fav this one.

This is a terrific poem - all jazzy and cute, but better than that, it reminds me to get out there and exercise! I used to LOVE that; I can again. I had forgotten. Blowing you kisses.

Hello Carole Duet, hi! I see age as a number. Birthdays come and go, ny difference. Because age is just a number. Enjoy your evening my friend.
Date: 6/29/2020 10:55:00 PM

Oh yes, this poem speaks for so many of us, Wonder when, we can all grow old being 25, or would that in itself cause more problems? love this poem, to my favourites.

Wowww this is one of your most fantastic poems I enjoyed so much, you fabulously rhyme in about ageing but you do sound admirably young at heart so do wear heels as long as they don't trip you. I was admiring many stanzas ESP the castle in sand and the last. Kudos. Plz pleez do read and comment my newest, a prose and do also read the articles and data I have copy pasted in comment section below the poem so you will confirm the matter further.

You nailed it my friend. We that find old age reminds of the blessings of youth that we so took for granted. Now oft wage battle against our own frail bodies that refuse to perform as we think they should. I am glad my that old age poem inspired you my dear friend. God bless.. A fav...

good humorous take on it. I was not doing that bad in my 60's until the doctor got a hold of me and put me on the most terrible drug ever. Side effects two years later and I feel like I will never recover.
