TO READ CLICK ON THE + BUTTON. I am a writer of poetry I come from a family of storytellers and this has helped me in my poetry. I have been writing since I could pick up a pen. Have written in all forms and won many, many contests with my poetry.  My poetry has been featured in lots of books.  I have created my own forms that are often used by poets worldwide. And I have extensivley studied the poems of old, the writers forms, word use, punctuation, rhyming and layout.  I have taken some Writing Classes and have been told over and over, I am a born poet, something that can never be taught.  Have been part of several poetry clubs locally. I have helped poets to edit their poems and helped them to improve their presentation. My own poems are quite often sad. I write of death and grief. You could say I write "graveyard poetry." And I write about experiences in my life, to complications of the world,  and not afraid to share my soul. But, I can and do write happy if I want to, and I love to write of nature and poems on spiritual introspective themes, sometimes I even write of romance. And people who know me, will verify that I like using quotes in my poetry and I enjoy writing for contest themes on Poetry Soup. I joke that I can make any theme sad. I enjoy sponsoring my own contests on Poetry since 2008 and have sponsored hundreds and hundreds of contests. I left the site for a brief time in 2011, removing all my poetry when my Muse went missing, but, after a near death experience returned later in 2012 and just picked up where I left off. I love art, all classical music, researching all things, nature, gardening, meditation, praying, peace and tranquility.  I collect books of all kinds, dictionaries, poetry books, art, even cookbooks,  I adore vintage jewelry, colored glass, and dishes.  I adore the creaking, moaning old building where I live with my Snuggles Kitty Cat and a few mice.

Ten poems that define me as a poet . . . (from thousands)

1. The Dream Lingers https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/the_dream_lingers_408612 This poem was written after a near death experience, it stills haunts me, I could hear my mother calling me.

2. Safe In My Heart Forever https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/safe_in_my_heart_forever_549494 My mother was my anchor, the wings beneath my feet and my best friend, I miss her so very much.

3. Tattered Pages https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/tattered_pages_688344 At the end of the poem, a baby born, died and I was told he was adopted, my parents lied.

4. Dad's Workshop https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/dads_workshop_714811 I wrote this poem in 1997 but only posted it when I was posting on poetrysoup- it is about Dad.

5. Beautiful Scars https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/beautiful_scars_735565 This poem gives you just a small glimpse of the pain and grief I carry with me every single day.

6. And That Comes From Within https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/and_that_comes_from_within_1127173 My health is not that good, never has been and never will be, and no money will change my outcome.

7. in my green dream https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/in_my_green_dream_762889 I love this poem, dreamy and spiritual, I am all about nature in this one, come on a green journey.

8. A Lost Feather https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/a_lost_feather_783977 This poem is very meaningful to me, it speaks of my Ojibwe roots and of my ancestors in the sky.

9. "Kindness is the Key" https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/kindness_is_the_key_848785 When awful things happen to us in life it is easy to become mean and resentful but kind is better.

10. I Write Fragments https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/i_write_fragments_1243058 This poem sums up my journey in writing, fragments, snippets that drip, drip from my pen and mostly at night.

Poetry and Why I Write It

Blog Posted:2/14/2020 7:36:00 PM

"The word poetry comes from an ancient Greek word meaning to make, compose.  Poetry is made and the poet is the maker.  Edgar Allen Poe said it is the rhythmical creation of beauty"

Poetry for me is a hunger and thirst that I must do because it is like the air I breathe.  Words are selected in my poetry for their beauty, sound and power to express my feelings, there is a mood in my poetry more intense and expressive than my everyday speaking.  Poems created represent my emotions, experiences in life, and attachments.  Oh yes, I like slice-of-life poetry.  In nature poems I like to show an unexpected way of looking at things, but most of all in my poetry I want to touch the reader with my words and emotions. I like trying a wide range of forms, and love when I can try one for the first time.  I am always  learning new ways to write.  It is an endless journey  . . . .

Will you share your reasons for writing poetry?  Is it a hunger and thirst ?

Poetry and me... lol.. Never good companions.. It was totally a different world which I never tried or wanted to enter.. Then time and life helped me to scribble a little. And I came to poetrysoup where they called me an International Poet.. Wow.. I was totally surprised.. Here I saw people with magic wands.. Like a child I started to swim in this wonderful pool and then they came and touched me with their magic spells.. Each one.. Now I started writing more frequently.. Some are bad.. I know.. Some are good.. That somebody says.. No hunger.. No thirst.. It is just a coincidence..

Jenish, amazing how scribbles in time become poetry, and I like your description of being touched my magic spells, because it is magic, bad poem, good poems whatever, they are your poems and part of your poetic journey, sometimes I go back to older poems, my bad poems and redo them perhaps in a new form or just better choices of words _Constance

Why I write is in the same vein as why a fisherman fishes. To have a hobby, an interest and a spot on the pier with all my other peers. To be on the water's edge enjoying the ambience, aesthetics, auxiliaries of nature and humanity. And from time to time to cast a thrill, dip my feet and see my reflection. To me that is enjoyable. And in the frame of my eyes, and hopes that is what I want to take home.

I have no whys or hows for a wonder that has been living within me for so long a time.. I just remember how, via poetry, I breathed out my love.. my thoughts on life.. Poetry to me, is a connection.. a charm.. a trance.. a language of the heart and mind.. a long history with paper, pen and words.. a sweet fulfilling story of passion and wonder! I started writing intuitively baring my very soul to the world of words without great knowledge of rules and techniques.. so far, having the honour and great delight to share my passion with beautiful souls, talented poets from whom I have been learning that Poetry is of infinite beauty and possibilities.. just open the heart and mind and learn!

On a primal level my heart beats madly for the inspiration...On an intellectual level I need to penetrate the deepest meaning of a truth which becomes an orgasmic catalyst for a poem Poetess. The insight you share about how your heart works with poetry is beautiful...Justin

To share the depth of my heart. To embrace moments around me. Sometimes, emotions need a voice. Poetry allows me to truly set them free. Writing about moments that hold a personal touch, tug at me so deeply. "To share the depth of my heart" Yes, this why I scribble. ~ Brandy

Constance, another great blog! I write poetry for a variety of reasons. I could be in the shower and have a poem in my head that I need to write when I get out.:) I often will write poems to express my emotions. I recently lost my Dad and have written two to help me cope with my grief. I may get inspired by a place or a beautiful nature scene. I love birds and the seasons. Contests are also inspiring at times. I feel a sense of release after I write my poems, whether I feel they are any good or not.

Tania, thanks for the compliment on my blog. I am like you in that I get inspired by everything I see that catches my eye while inside or out and about, and the deaths of loved ones is always a poem theme I write over and over again_Constance
Date: 2/14/2020 7:59:00 PM
I do not really know the answer to that question as assuredly as you do, Constance. I think I write poetry as a mental exercise more than an emotional thing. I wrote out all my feelings years ago, and my newer poetry seems like a rehashing of feelings I have expressed again and again, yet now I am doing it in different styles and forms. Poetry came to me in 2000 and I enjoyed the social interaction that came with it so much, I guess that is the other half of why I still write. I have always loved to write. I mainly wrote stories and lots and lots of letters in my youth. I think we are born to love it!

Andrea, I wrote as a child stories about my cat or flowers, things like that, then grandma encouraged me to write my feelings, then I sort of stopped for quite awhile then my real writing started with the death of my father in 1997, the words just came pouring out of me and they still do, and I write the pain over and over, not sure but I embrace it, and just like you I just love to write _Constance
