The Autumn Man

I think I'm getting older ~ there's difference in every way

Body doesn't feel the same ~ on an ice cold Winter's day

What's really bothering me ~ is how my mind has changed

Now I listen to hearts aloud ~ in the howling of the rain

I think I'm getting older ~ silver fox hair on display

Not the Loverboy I used to be ~ sometimes I wish I'd stayed that way

So I'll face what I have to face ~ wrinkled up I'll push ahead

I think I'm getting older now ~ it's hard to get up off my bed

I think I'm getting older ~ vision seems a little blurred

I might not hear everything ~ but somehow I read your every word

What fascinated me for years ~ just goes by blowing in the wind

Autumn leaves are falling~ and I'm back to earth again

Your poem is tenderly expressed, dear Arturo. It takes grace to age gracefully. Your last line is simply beautiful. Congratulations on your wonderful and well deserved recognition with POTD honors, mon ami. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

This poem is one to which many of us can relate. One day we look in the mirror and we're 35 and it seems like just a few years later we're 55 and aching from head to toe. Where did the time go? So much emotion in this beautiful but simple poem. No wonder you got POTD for it. Congrats and FAVED. P.S. Love the piano music too.

Oh, so poignant, and I so relate ... I take care of both my folks at age 93, and it's getting so it's nearly too much for me and my brother. But we do what we can. Wonderful write, and congrats on POTD. Blessings!

so sad, ARturo, and sadly, so true as we get older and older. I have friends much older than me and many of them express this sorrow. my mother though is pretty hearty at age 86. How i hope to follow in her footsteps!!

So be your blessings...it's good to be alive... I spend at least half a year with my mother...I see what age does...and to some extend it breaks my heart...

Time has a way of placing age on display. :) It's okay though- because getting older means, you become better. That's how I see it anyway. Everything gets better with age. Congratulations Arturo, on Poem of the day!! ~ Brandy

I can relate my friend. I suppose the years could have been worse in my case but I still at age 65 now see and feel not a day older than 90! Yet poetry and new dawns give me hope that blessings still come and life is still sweet.. A great poem, a fav my friend..

- The age comes creeping like an imperceptible autumn darkness, Arturo :) - One day the youth is gone ... - You don't quite know when it happened, but the signs are not to be mistaken - "A man knows he is getting old when he looks in the mirror and looks like his father." :) - A great poem - hugs // Anne-Lise :)
