The Perfect Christmas Tree Premiere Contest Winner

We ventured out into the woods one day Trying to find the perfect Christmas tree A beautiful fir all will want to come and see Planning to cut it and carry it on an old sleigh We walked for miles, until we were ready to quit We finally found the most magnificent green fir It was so perfect, full and tall, the top was a blur We were so excited and couldn’t wait to cut it We then saw a beautiful red cardinal in his nest The nest was hidden in the branches of this tree We couldn’t do it, disturb the nest and make him flee We decided to leave this perfect tree and let him rest We turned around and couldn’t believe our eyes There it was, a smaller version of the perfect tree We picked this one instead and felt happy as could be We loved the smaller tree much more to our surprise Feeling more in the Christmas spirit that we saved a life We then cut and carried our small tree home that day We knew it was only right we let that beautiful bird stay We felt joyous and at peace for not causing him any strife 12/9/18

Very beautiful poem!! Also it was very nice of you and your family for not chopping the tree and letting the bird keep the tree as his home. :)

Thanks and congratulations. Reminds me of a Christmas in Newfoundland. When I cut what I thought was a small tree. After the snow melted, I saw that I had cut the top out of a large tree. Deep snow that year. That was a surprise.

Lovely poem, Tania. How awful it would've been if the cardinal lost it's home! Congrats on your first place win. :)

I don't like to cut tree, but choose an artificial Christmas Tree. I appreciate your decision. All the best. Love.

Such a heartwarming story Tania, I am sure many birds do lose their homes when trees are felled for Christmas... we have an artificial one but haven't used it for several years preferring to use a tiny tree on the window sill which was given to us by a dear friend who passed away and we use it in her memory:-) hugs Jan xx
