From Poetry to Music & My 1st Song: "Be Careful" - Carole Duet's Blog

MY FIRST BLOG:  POETRY TO MUSIC

Well hello everyone!  I've finally decided to "blog" (what an ugly word!  lol)  Anyway, I am working with Mark Massey to set some of my poems to music which has always been a dream of mine.  It is so much fun and I don't know where all the energy it takes to do this comes from but it is just exhilerating I can tell you.  And, Mark is such a dear to help me and so very talented.  

I love music too and used to play the clarinet and saxaphone and keyboard myself but have no instruments now much to my dismay.  My clarinet was re-claimed by my brother who was its first owner.  He was a wonderful musician and could play anything he decided to play in no time at all.  Then, sadly when he passed away it disappeared.  Who knows where it is now but it was a true woodwind and had a wonderful tone because it was not plastic like the clarinets are today. I never had my own saxaphone either but I really enjoyed playing the sax too.  It was so much easier than the clarinet and at one time I played it in a small orchestra.  Now, more recently I decided to teach myself to play the keyboard because I had always wanted to play the piano and since I could play by ear (a little) I figured it would be something I could pick up.  Well, it required a lot of practice but I loved it. However, it got broken...unfortunately as a result of a temper tantrum (my own).  Yes, I hate to admit it but when I was married to my ex-husband he had a talent for making me so mad that I would just lose control sometimes.  Anyway, I threw something (not at him...I'm not that bad!) and it landed right on my keyboard.  Bam!  And, that was it.  It was mortally wounded and though I apologized to it many times, shedding tears that fell like rain on its precious keys it never recovered.  And, then my ex decided to operate on it which made it worse. It died and I've not had the money to replace it as I am now retired and am one of those people on a strictly "fixed" income.  Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.  

Since then, I've been devoting most of my time to writing and some of it to painting (which I've done all my life).  Very recently though I met Mark Massey here on "the soup" and through my new friend, Darren White.  He had set some of Darren's poetry to music and I've also noticed that he has set quite a few other poets' poetry to music too.  So, I decided to contact him and he has been very kind to work with me on this new passion of mine:  writing songs.  And, I just love it.  

To date, we have produced "Be Careful" which is now here on the soup and I would love for you all to take a listen to it and let me know what you think.  Now we are working on "Tired of Waiting" which is not quite ready but hopefully will be soon.  Next, will probably be "Whirlwind" and I can't wait to start on that one.

I will probably start blogging more now and let y'all know when a song is ready...just in case someone would like to hear it.
