Coma

I smile at you From deep within the folds of consciousness Where, they say, no recognition does exist I feel your hands and hear your voice And smile at you I see you While drip drips to moist my burning eyes There is no vision, nothing to recognize they say I see your face, observe the glance of sadness And see you I hear you From deep within whirling clouds of mist Where no sound penetrates they say I feel your familiar voice resonate in me And hear you I am here Whatever they say is not true, I am here Do not give up on me and watch me wake For one day I will look at you and hold your hand And be here *** Edited and reposted poem (c) Copyright Darren White December 12, 2017

"Do not give up on me and watch me wake..." When I come out of my " poetic coma," which I go into now and again, you are one of those I seek to see...knowing that your poems are so full of life, and being. There is poetry that sits deep within, and keeps me in touch with my reality. Invisible to others, maybe. But never dead and buried. This poem is compassionate, and so caring...(((HUGS)))

I think this is true. We should always be aware of what we say around coma patients. I believe it is entirely true that they can hear us. Very lovely Darren! I hope you have a wonderful New Year! : )

Oh, I love this, Duir! I believe most of the population is in a coma-like state. Beautifully done

I kind of feel that being in a coma is a little bit like having a near-death experience. I think the body is in a kind of limbo while it is healing and sometimes conscious enough to hear what is going on but not able to respond. This is where I feel energy work really helps to heal the body. Your poem is very beautiful Darren! : )

Great I enjoyed how you expressed your reaching out from an impairment. Wonder why my coma experience was blank.

What you say is true Darren. In training we were taught to carry on a conversation with our comatose patients. They also hear people discussing their condition. This poem from the point of view of the comatose person is beautiful and poignant.
