Suicide

I’m obsessed. Feel possessed, So depressed. Lost my pride, Want to hide. Suicide. Very sad, Feel so bad, I’ve been had. Thinking of you, Feeling blue, Stuck like glue. On my mind, Love is blind. Left behind. Laying here, Drinking beer, Death so near. Over the hill, Just a pill, That can kill. Suicide, Suicide, Suicide. Copyright: 7/12/2018 “All Rights Reserved”

Your short staccato lines deliver a lot on an emotional level, Carole. Continued awareness is needed on this theme which alas is far too common. Congrats on a deserved podium finish! // paul

Thanks, Paul. You're right. Suicide is a sad fact of life for many people and I think we all sooner or later either consider it or know someone who is considering it and it's our moral duty to do whatever is possible to alleviate the mental and emotional pain which causes it...including write about it. Congratulations on your win. Amazing and brave poem that could not have been easy to write so exceptionally. I sometimes think our culture normalizes suicide and it should never be acceptable. Those left behind are changed forever, not for the good either. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks, Susan, and yes, it is a difficult subject but one which needs to be discussed and pondered seriously since life has become so difficult for many people all around the world for many reasons but mostly because of too much greed and not enough love. Carole Duet

Thank you for your simple but true comment and yes, you are right, Maureen, and that includes self-love. We must all try harder to spread love to everyone we meet in some way. Even a smile or a tender touch might prevent a tragedy. Carole

I was very close to a dear friend whose mother and brother commited suicide. She told me of her concerns that she too might take that path when she could rationalize, but later on she hid her feelings, planned out everything, boxed up her belongings to send to her father and took a bottle of asprin. She was a beautiful stewardess. She shocked everyone. I wish I could have helped turn her around. Your moving poem is exceptional! Thank you. Congratulations on your Third Placement Carole! xxoo

Thank you, Connie, for your honest and heartfelt comment. It's a big problem in our country, especially among veterans who have been to war. We can get away from a lot of things, but not our own minds. We are our own worst enemy and professional and compassionate help is so very important. Carole

Carole, I have never considered suicide but I work with people have considered it, some who attempted it, and sadly, some who succeeded. What a sad commentary suicide is. Thank you for this very eye opening write.

(2) When it's that dark, it's all you see, and everything - even your love and need of others - becomes secondary to escaping it. I thank heaven I was not successful, (though the alternative was worse at the time), because I'm here to let others know there IS a way out of the darkness. THANK YOU for this, and for doing it with such artistry. I apologize for the ramble, lol. Congratulations on your THIRD PLACE in the 'My Muse, Mortal' Poetry Contest - blessings, my friend! :-) <3

Thank you, Greg, for your very meaningful and much appreciated comment. Yes, me too, I've been there. Many of us right here on the soup probably have. We poets are a sensitive lot and sometimes we take things so hard especially when we lose someone or something we love. We feel that life just isn't worth living any more...but we must persevere and put our faith in God to pull us through the black times.

(1) This hit very hard, Carole, and we need so much MORE of this kind of straight-to-the-core writing that takes no prisoners. This is a subject far too often ignored or marginalized, and we MUST talk more openly about it. I have been there, when the pain in life is so horrid that you will do ANYthing to escape it, and I get very angry when I hear people say things like it's "a cowardly exit", (then I say a prayer that they never feel that much emotional/physical/mental pain) ... I had suicidal thoughts and other depression. I am bipolar and have been hospitalized for suicidal thoughts actually. I am usually a happy-go-lucky person, but deep down, not so much. This poem helped me out so much. Thank you. Awesome poem and creatively done. A favorite!!!!!! -JWE ps: condolences and prayers for those who go through major or minor suicidal thots and actions. It’s not worth it. Seek help and love instead. I pray for all too ~~

Thank you for your valuable and thoughtful comment, JW. We must hang in there...even when it seems useless to do so. Living takes work and even determination. Besides, you just never know when things will surprise you and turn everything around. Carole

So well expressed Carole. I love what you have done here. A sad situation indeed, and I am so sorry for your loss. The signs are not always there, all one can do is be there and call professional help if necessary. Life can be so hard at times, it is so sad that people instead of facing a situation go for the alternative of taking their own lives. A poem that needs to be read by all. An inspiring headnote....Maria hugs

Thank you, Maria. Yes, it was a big shock for me. I had no idea at all that "suicide" was on his mind. He was such a good person too. If only I had known....Carole :(

Such powerful ink sorrow, Carole! Words cannot express the comfort needed to assuage your pain. When my best friend (my sister-in-law) killed herself, I never saw it coming. Ty for your compassionate advice. A poignant subject capably covered by your adroit pen. Love and hugs.

Thank you, Freddie. I'm learning to live with it. I just hope the poem might help people to understand how someone who is suicidal might be thinking and to try to help. Carole

I am sorry for your loss, Carole. You put the mindset very succinctly in your poem. But sometimes friends are powerless to help and cannot save the struggling person.

Your words graced the page with a flow of poetic wisdom and understanding. The imagery of this piece is well suited to the emotions solicited from the author, one of dread with sinister reverberations. Emile.
