Teacher's Pet

As I look back, it all seems funny now
Recalling all those awkward teen age years
I pushed the limits farther than allowed
Supposedly when young, we had no fears

Infatuation caught me with the blues
My heart was swollen by love's gentle sting
It was a crush that only left a bruise
Left by the diamond in her wedding ring

The first day I laid eyes on her, I fell
The lightning bolt she was, that shook my world
And to this day I swear I'd know her smell
Could she have read my mind, she'd likely hurled

I hated school but never missed her class
She said she loved me 'cause I made her laugh

Excellent poem, Daniel. Very beautifully expressed sonnet. I feel the vibe on this one. I was a teacher's pet in the fifth grade. She was the meanest teacher, but she liked me, don't know why exactly, I was just a shy kid. She sent me out to the corner deli to get her lunch and she always bought me a sandwich w/chips and pop. Other kids hated her, of course I didn't. Love this poem though. Many blessings to you.

I enjoyed this 'teenage' poem, Daniel. Throughout my scholastic years I only had 2 female teachers and both were very prim and strict...no crushes there! Regards // paul

That is a first for me, Paul. I guess you missed out. Were it not for my crush, I would not have been a history buff. I tried so hard to impress my teacher, I actually learned to like history. Thanks for dropping by. It's always a pleasure.

Yes Joseph, I made that remark earlier. These days a crush usually means somebody's going to jail or lose their job at the very least. Thanks for dropping by Joseph. In our generation we had a few values and morals:) They were waning but we still had our limits!

A great write Daniel. I love the line - It was a crush that only left a bruise.. Looking back on my own awkward teenage years now I smile fondly at that girl and at other times outright cringe! Fiona

It's just a coming of age ritual, almost. We all did it. Those awkward years are what made us who we are today. Thanks for stopping in Fiona. It's always nice to share a smile.

Girls are trained to look for the ring, guys well we usually don't look at their fingers first, right? Sounds like fond memories, think every boy had one or two. Not me I moved around too much. Great write as always you never disappoint. Have a great night. P.S Just posted a song about finding love was thinking of you. Cheers

Aw, but you were a naughty brat - if true. A naughty brat with an excellent memory! I have heard many men confess a High School crush on a female teacher, but never so poetically. I enjoyed your Sonnet, Daniel ... CayCay
