I missed that place
more than I thought I would -
that place where my cheek nestles
and I feel safe;
standing on my tiptoes
to reach your lips,
the way you put your hand
on the back of my neck
to draw me in.
Alone, I felt
independent, strong. Lost,
half empty,
held up by the wind,
wishing I could breathe.
I want you standing beside me,
need you lying next to me.
Sometimes time apart is good.
It reminds us of what we need,
what we have ...
what we never want to live without.

Becca, What a lovely and moving piece, stirring the love shared by two soulmates. So, nice to read something that soothes the soul. Take Care, Paulette

Heartfelt and full of human emotions that two people can feel, experience and love. Exceptional piece Becca. Hope you are well...

I feel those words and totally agree to the sentiment. It's a wonderful feeling, a wonderful moment to be in. And we all men and women want to share that with another. Thank you for sharing that with us all.

I found my way back to the soup after a year adrift. I came straight here. What a beautiful way with words. I get lost in them every time I read your work. May all you long for come quickly home. Dean

Sometimes what we have is not what we need. Sometime things we love become toxic apathy. Change is never easy, and rarely wanted because there is a kind of morbid sense of security in the familiar...

I do understand the poem. After we create walls. We want to take down and find the place of joy and happiness. Dear Becca, you made the reader feel and understand your words and thoughts. A amazing poem.

Beautiful words, haunting words. I can honestly say I know those feelings. I'm a better person for the love of a good woman. I think in a lot of cases... knowing how deeply that love has it's lasting impressions on our life is important. Thanks for sharing, Becca, as always good to read from your ink.

Hi Becca, Very beautifully expressed. I'm glad I saw One Dismal Night (one of my personal favorites) on the home page. Well penned and a somber read for me. Thank you. Best of Wishes, William

I remembered the first time I met my wife. It was right out of a story book. Those things don't come often. Sometimes some time is good. I don't about that yet so far you have inspired me to be innovative in my relationship with my wife. Thanks for sharing. %Matt

This made me remember the first time I met my wife, she was as tall as me, but over years I think I've wore her down.......or maybe she stopped wearing those 3 inch heels. Excelent Brandy ...ah...I mean Becca

Hi Brandy, excellent poetic write from your golden pen. The gentle emotions flow through your piece, painting such tender thoughts on the canvas of the mind. Your words always seem to sing in to the heart. This one comes from the heart. Have a wonderful evening. Hugs....Mike. XX

So nice to see you posting.... reminds me of the Chicago song, where he says everybody needs some time apart..... distance makes the heart grow fonder after all.... the reader always loses oneself in your words...

Tender, loving, intimate "the way you put your hand / on the back of my neck / to draw me in." Missing the intimacy of a caring embrace makes us appreciate it all the more if/when it comes back to us. This is special ~ John

"Sometimes time apart is good" That is true in so many ways. This is beautiful, romantic and tender, all at the same time. Simple moments shared, mean so much to the heart. ~ Brandy
