Such a sad time for pets and for vets who have PTSD. It is ironic we are supposedly celebrating our leaders, and yet, we hurt them in this way with these loud angry pops and pows.

A true life experience for many of us. The irony is that they don't seem to realize they are safest when they are with us.

A belated thanks for reading and commenting on my poem, Richard. However, I didn't bring my dog to the fireworks show. It was fiction...but true! Right? Carole :D

Fireworks eh, great haiku on them, and it touches on the pet side too. Pets mostly do run and hide from fireworks. My cat goes under the bed when they blast away. Thumbs up! Pls pleez do review/ comment my newest poem too. Nobody comments on me unless I request it.

Thank you, J.W, Glad you liked it. Did you turn off the lights and watch the fireworks "full screen"? Carole :D

Oh no - a perfect turn line that impressed and amused me until I wondered if it might be true! I hope not because this haiku really does the haiku thing. It grabbed me. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Well, I'm so glad it did the "haiku thing" (whatever that is), CayCay. lol And, no I actually left my dog at home because I knew she would be so frightened when the fireworks started. Carole :D

I really love this cleaverly crafted Haiku, Carole. It brings back vivid memories of my poor little chihuahua, who would hide under the bed trembling and shaking, a total mess, when they lit the fireworks on New Years day. To make things worse there was 2 sets, children's ones at 9, and the midnight one. A fave for the memory....Maria Hugs

Oh Maria! I used to have a chihuahua that I dearly loved and I know how they shake when frightened. My poodle doesn't shake but she does hide. Maybe some earmuffs would help. lol Can't you just imagine that! Anyway, in reality my dog did not run away. She missed the bar-b-que though because I left her safe at home. Carole :D

Poor dog. When I was a 6 year old kid, a big black lab was afraid of an alarm. I took my little hands and placed them over his ears. He was so thankful he followed me around the neighbourhood every time I went out to play with my friends.

What a sweet thing for a little boy to do for a dog that wasn't even his own! I knew you were a kind-hearted person, Paul. In reality, I left my little dog safe at home on July 4th. Thanks for reading and commenting, Paul. Carole :D

The 4th of July is an important date to remember and celebrate...alas, Carole, some animals are not so keen! It's up to us owners to put their mind at rest. Regards // paul

Yes, July 4th represents freedom from England for us and everybody has a bar-b-que and fireworks. It's fun for all but the poor animals. That's why in reality I left my poodle safe at home. Carole :D

Thanks, Line. It's true. Their ears are so much more sensitive than ours. I hope you got to read the poem after I added the fireworks. They were so beautiful. Carole :D
