A Feeling of Deja Vu

Suffering ennui was not an anomaly for me
but tonight was filled with an excited cacophony.
I was a dilettante with an élan avante garde,
and a nod to the baroque.

My handsome sponsor had given me carte blanche
and beautiful models looking like beautiful birds
  danced and pranced backstage
in bona fide ostrich feathers and stilettos.

Then it came: “Lights, music, curtain!”
and a wonderful feeling of déjà vu.

Hi, there, Carole. I was noticing the conversation below. Yes, sadly, a judge cannot control where the placements fall in multiple sets. This for me is a very high one of the 2's. you used the words very well. and congrats.

Hi Andrea! Yes, I found that out and it seems to me that if the contest sponsor is not allowed to order the placements that Poetry Soup should just list them in alphabetical order. That would certainly clear up any confusion, especially for those of us who have never actually held a contest of our own. However, I am grateful just to have made it on the list at all and Silent explained it to me and I hope everyone (not just me) understands now. So thanks for your comment. Carole

My dear friend, thanks for letting me know that the order of names on the list is decided by Poetry Soup (?) and not the sponsor.

I love that ending!! How you wove the idea of deja vu into this. it was just perfect! I see Pashang is having to dig out the dictionary. I had to do that too just to know some of the words (mine is not posted yet). Good luck in the contest. It sure is challenging our imaginations.

Hey Andrea! Yes, I had to dig out the dictionary too and this one really was a challenge but I think the words, "avant garde" , led me to write this one as I kept picturing myself as a fashion designer which is one thing I wanted to be at one time.
Date: 1/23/2018 1:34:00 PM
My dear Carole, those words are all out of my dictionary but you have done a magnificent job... good luck.
