Feel It Til You Real It

Stop thinking about sadness
and think about gladness.
Stop thinking about loss
and think about gain.
Stop thinking about hate
and think about love.

Don’t think about war.
Think about peace.
Don’t think about the ugly.
Think about the lovely.
Don’t think about evil.
Think about good.

Stop grumbling.
Be grateful.
If you picture it
it will come.
Just feel it
 'til you real it.

We cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought - book from the early 80's, taught me this, and thank goodness. It has changed my attitude and life.

For the most part I agree, but we also need to take time to feel the sad bits. By keeping them inside we obscure our ability to truly experience the joyful moments.

We know that life is a rollercoaster.....ups & downs, good and bad, sadness & happiness....yet so many people seem to concentrate on the negative aspects, thus making their lives a misery! I feel this should be incorporated in the school's morning assembly everyday. As many times we hear this, we say this, so much impact it creates and slowly atleast a little change can be seen in the way we perceive things ... Beautiful :)

Thank you so much, Swetha. What a great idea! I can just see/hear someone on the school intercom saying the "don'ts" and the kids in the classrooms saying the "do's". I'm sure that would embed some positive feelings in their minds and who knows where that could lead. Thanks again. Carole :D

I wonder if you've any idea how wise I believe these words to be? If all people did just as you wrote, we would manifest such in the universe and gone would be war, disease, etc., - the lion would lay down with the lamb in the returned Eden. This should be a poster behind everyone's eyelids. May this poem resonate with more people than just those on Soup. Wisdom - poetically served. All the best ... CayCay

Carole, thank you for the reminder to me to stop thinking about how sick I am. The brain is so easy to fool! This reminds me of a book I used to love. "You cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought", one of my favorite books.

Great poem Carole and such utter positive thinking. I think positive a great deal of the time, but today I was brought down to earth with a bang - a very close friend of ours was diagnosed yesterday with lung cancer that has spread to his spine and down his one leg, my husband and I are devastated!
