When all around is darkness Who provides the sun When everyone is serious Who is poking fun When pollution clouds the bright blue sky Who brings clarity Who tries to bring some common sense To mass insanity When people kill for a belief Who is pointing fingers When bullies push their weight around Who is the first gunslinger Who sees the heavenly beauty In Mother Nature's charm When the house of cards goes up in flames Who sounds the fire alarm When depression comes and pulls you in Who writes you words of comfort When they can't think of rhyming words Who makes up words like bumfort Who puts their feelings into words With sonnets from the heart Who describes a garbage dump With a color chart Whose imagination Can jump from sea to star Or describe the pungent odor Of their grandpa's stale cigar What people share a common bond Make pictures out of words It's a talent that we happily share Let every voice be heard As wordsmiths we are special Cause we feel what others see Let's weave our threads together Show the world our tapestry September 26 2016

Thank you, SuZ. You have my permission to use it anytime you need to rhyme with comfort:) I tell everybody this, When people read and comment on my older poems, for me that is the highest compliment one can pay because there are so many new ones to be read. Thank you for making this old timer smile. I am glad you liked the poem.

What a clear gift you possess, this was one of the first poems I read when I joined poetrysoup. I did not understand how the website worked. All I know is I did not write down your name nor could I remember it once I set up my own account. But you sir did influence me to share my poems. To know that you took the time to read one of my poems which led me back to the one that started it all for me online well let's just say that's pretty special and deserving of a long THANK YOU! A.S.

A.S. I really appreciate your kind comments and to be truthful this is not one of my best nor my favorites. I am stoked that I may have somehow encouraged you to post your poems. Never be afraid to be yourself. I am just a simple old man who occassionally writes a poem. No more no less. Thank you so much. You have made an old man happy today:)

Daniel, By even the most stringent of standrds, "Poets" is an awesome composition. It marches through the mind, questioning, prodding, challenging, contesting, and, finally, celebrating. I love it. With all good wishes, Paul.

Poet Shall you amass a wealth of descriptive locutions to plant in your grey matter garden? Will you give birth to baby eloquence and listen to the wailing vibrations of linguistic infancy while assisting in magnificent growth? Shall you offer your undying love and attention to the graphic sounds of poetic pitter patter? Will you mix and arrange a flavorful and appetizing stew in the cooking pot of your mouth after the fruits of your labor mature in artistic detail?

Shall you serve hearty ambrosia dishes to those hungry for a meaningful assortment of words? Will you feed their covetous and ravenous souls with fully developed expression? And by satisfying others poet, Shall you satiate yourself?

Awesome write, Daniel ... I believe we are but tools for the Creative Conscience or God or Nature or whatever we consider our higher power, and but a conduit for that energy. That "gift" helps us to put into words what others feel but can't put into words, and you have captured that so wonderfully here, my friend! This will have to be another favorite, (and hopefully move it up on the all-time list, ha!). Keep up the great work - I love your stuff! :-)

Daniel, A great dedication and a wonderful poem for Tim Smith. Tim's a gifted and very talented poet for sure. Your verses are spot-on, and cover a multiplicity of many aspects of what poets do when they contemplate thoughts and emotions and actively reflect them to their fellow man. Outstanding!! A Big Seven too!! Best Always, Gary
