Maria Down Under

There’s endless miles of golden sandy beaches Sparkling aqua waters as far as the eye can see Gods and Goddesses frolic au naturel down under Here’s where Heaven shines her light down on me If you foolishly swim between the danger red line zones See a shark coming ‘HELP ME’! - You wildly scream Well worth the SAVE in those bronzed muscly arms Spunky Aussie life guards straight out of your dream Women glow and men become fit- lean and taut Any wonder that all thoughts get thrown asunder Rippling muscles flex- bronzed bodies like gods I come from the ‘green and gold land down under’ Spoiled for choice - Raw possibilities endless No need to lust silently pining after one Pick yourself up look around broken sparrow This must surely be Gods place in the sun Nothing comes close to the beer down under Accompanied by a vegemite sandwich or two Looking for something more gourmet and exotic? There’s crocodile and kangaroo to name but a few A land where every man resides like a King And women are fawned over - treated like Queens We don’t let sneezes and hay fever spoil things If you have the sniffles - Hey! there’s Claratyne This land where millionaires are made in a day If you push the limits to achieve lofty goals So don’t keep waiting to come on down under Where our worth is what defines our roles * ‘Living in a land Down Under Where women glow and men plunder Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder, You better run you better take cover’
Oops!! that verse sounds like it may be lines from the song 'Land Down Under' by 'Men at Work'. Might be seen as plagiarism. Sorry!! Couldn’t help myself!! Instrumental of ‘Men at Work’ - by Joh Ph Published on Jul 31, 2016 You Tube * Quoted reference and citation of original lyrics of above verse from 'Land Down Under' belongs to 'Men At Work' first released October 1981 - Songwriters: Colin James Hay / Ronald Graham Strykert.

Talk about a lucky country! Reminds me of a conversation on a flight from Melbourne to Singapore. He said he was going there to sell some gold. “Are you a trader?” “No. I’ve got a gold mine” It seems he was a farmer and one day, dug up something more valuable than potatoes!

Hi Maria...I see that your muse would not let you be, even if you're on a break!:) I have been too busy lately, especially with friends visiting from abroad (most of them from Australia...they keep inviting me to go over, but it's not that easy). Your lovely witty poem is very tempting, but the 25 hr journey puts me off! Warm regards // paul

With a name like Sunshine, of course you would be glowing enough to attract attention, no 'riches' needed. We're not that superficial anyway, its simply tongue in cheek humour lol...lovely to see you Anne-Lise....Maria xxx

This is fav for me, as it made me smile. you have a wonderful way of using music to inspire your poems. I have a lot of friends in Australia, the houses seems so much bigger than here in the UK, even average houses. Bet it is not that easy to become a millionaire though lol.

Thank you. Being a musician myself (not famous like my father was though) I really like to revive the old music, and I certainly would not say that it was' pinched from artistic walls ', like some would like to think. Music inspires me to write poetry. Millionaires are made by the day, but only if one applies themselves in the right way. Seriously.

I don't think it is plagiarism if you give reference to the lyrics to the artist. I have written pantoums with music lyrics, and referenced them. Guess it is a matter of interpretation. I remember this song, always made me laugh. Tongue in cheek humour to go with your poem.. You make the land of OZ sound so wonderful and it seems like you are spoilt for choice.. Thank fully, I do not suffer from hayfever, so I do not need claratyne lol.. Do they really eat vegimite sandwiches?
Williams Avatar
September 12, 2017 at 7:25 AM
Thank you Si, I am so glad to hear you say that too.As you say a matter of interpretation.Everything in Australia is bigger and better, the land is glorious and houses are huge. And yes Vegemite sandwiches are still very popular, not my thing though, a bit too salty for my taste.Thank you for the visit and lovely comments, I really do appreciate your support from the time I joined PS....Maria

Hi, In case you haven’t deduced from my notation below the poem re ‘plagiarising’ is ‘tongue and cheek’. As information to all concerned, it is not plagiarism when material or part thereof has been quoted, referenced and cited as has been duly noted - In our business, we are well aware of the referencing requirements with material used otherwise, it would remain available to only a few should this facility not be available. In songs it assists the artists to get traction, and is in public domain. Maria.
