Second Post Attempt-SEEKING HAIKU

Blog Posted:2/24/2021 10:31:00 PM

Xx2–

Why Now Haiku

My husband is a scientist, uncomfortable with any exploration of our interior cosmos.  This morning I had to try to explain to him the 3rd line “Aha!  Moment” of haiku: what it meant; felt like: tried to provoke, where to place it, reply to it, how its apex might compare with a peak of/in Christianity.

And that led me to a rushing train of thoughts about reality: reality as haiku and poetry seek to describe — Plus as they then note — the Aha! Moments to be captured in that targeted Ineffable instant when a new speck of Reality has been revealed and consumed by the mind/spirit together.

He didn’t get it, he told me.  I wish, so desire he would, because he does not get my obsession with Poetry: my addiction to revelation and to sharing it.  I can fret more about that later.

My thinking, which never stops, was diving on into the very streams of AHA! Realitythroughout our living room bright with the afternoon sun.  And my physical pain replaced for a time.  I, eating cold fried chicken and scooping bites of mashed sweet potatoes, saving tastes for the pups laying  across my extended, blanketed legs.  A filling peace.  Through my earphones I hear:
“All my life you have been faithful.
All my life you have been so so good.
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God...
...your goodness is running after me...

My thoughts  reading the messages in the totality of the room...the surrounding world...a tip within the All...

It came to me that the Aha! is illuminating unlimited, as involving the everpresent glimmers of our omnipresent God, not just seeking touch, but there within the truth of God experienced...a radical goal...craved...

Zen, Knowings, wordless, beyond concepts, of the floating high above any peak, where there waft delightful, calming fragrances, which I wish for without even knowin fragrance I seek.

And I witnessed the messaging of the air before me, implying it’s Reality was thick/filled:
the music does not. stop, but sounds in endless
ribbons throughout;
The lines of the contours of forms continue on crossing;one another, squiggling, suggesting more designs:
Inspirations are sent in a constant, drizzling mist, with droplets obviously meant to be caught;
Silly fairies move things, seeking to irk...yes, maddening, but someday perhaps we might learn that annoyance lies so far down the ladder, it will bring chuckles;
   , helping the days of fulfilling our purposes on Earth to pass on now to the next;And the, there are the angels who come in numbers to encircle the bed when Death threatens, or our Guardians. at their posts, in prayer, sending chants from Eden from beside us up to heaven, aiding the Holy Spirit
 to aid the day’s of fulfilling our purposes here on Earth pass on now to the next;
this room so filled with some all of the All, must I then wonder that one is told to Seek Silene?  Told by God to “Be still” to find him — where all stops, all pauses...all waits upon him...and our souls with their love may rise through the clarity and in nakedness be known...that God might read our beings’ third lines, having ownership of the Aha! Moments we transport from within us to him.
     Haiku is the metaphor of our days, a process and practice  for the purposes of our days, including our searching for God.
...And this is why I have taken to Haiku.

Thank you for caring and indulging me.  Hopefully, there has been some inspiration in this for you.

Great to meet you, too, Sally. I am now very intrigued because chess is also a passion of mine. Jim might be interested in my poem "Ode to Bobby Fischer," (https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/ode_to_bobby_fischer_1174" (https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/schrodingers_cat_tale_1175418), or one on the Big Bang (https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/big_bang_theory_of_meropes_nebula_1149592). Also, my most recent "If Fractals were Dactyls" might be of interest. I didn't mean to talk so much about me and science poems, but I think Jim and I and yourself may have a great deal in common. Perhaps we'll stay in touch. I sometimes play chess online at "Li Chess" and Spark Chess."

Hi Sally, The need for many people to have to/want to explain their and other's poetry, demeans it, to my mind. You can't distill it in a laboratory of reason. The wonder for the scientist is in the proof, whereas the wonder for a poet is in the essence of being; in the unseen. Loved your blog - it has set me off on my own tangent of thoughts .... I'm like my cat who sits staring at something unseen ... :)) Sus

2) Abd your points need including. I think writing poetry is necessary to being & immediacy, while its interpreting can go on & on...also good as showing catalysts of respondents. Sus,what U think?

ILOVE your stimulating, descriptive response, I guess because I totally agree. I am thinking of doing a podcast re the idea that anyone age 4+can learn to write poetry & should & our civilization needs it.

Hello Sally. Something in your blog triggered me to write because I have long believed science and poetry can be married. (before today I hadn't noticed that there were blogs on this site... ) As a scientist I love poems about the cosmos, quantum mechanics, physics, chemistry, biology, and many other topics people might not think are topics for poetry (including Haiku, though I prefer rhyming, lyrical poetry). The best scientists exploring unsolved mysteries value the power of creative thinking and poetic musing. Not sure if it would help to point your husband to such poems. I don't think any topic is off limits to the creative muse. All the best to you and yours. ~Eric

2) Eros. Quantum theory has something of pure poetry to it, I think. I am struck by poets’ fascination & draw to trees. Jim, liking chess, just told me of a place U might check out. It is a FB pg for a shop

So great to meet you Eric! Was about 35 yrs ago I came upon a book “Physics for Poets.” Changed my life. I need to reread it. Jim says he thinks of mathematics as the language of the cosmos. I agree.....

Sally, a very interesting blog, for me haiku is a visual in the moment in the first two lines, and the third line is the ahh moment but in a different direction, but also in the moment, a haiku should never read like a 3 line sentence, never have words like I or we in it and never be in past tense, and that third line is the most essential part, it takes you away from the first two lines, has no capitalization, has no punctuation. I know some will have different views on how a haiku should be done, but this is my view and I love it and stick by it and have won many a contest with this method _Constance

Constance 2) I am studying everything u can re it. In Japance it is written in one long vertical line. I agree w/ur no punc but at my level have found dashes necessary as so also used by the ancients Hugs please add notes to my learning :)

Ahh, Constance, I was hoping you’d comment. I am haiku beginner. Something deep within drawn to it, perhaps how it is said the Ahaa moment can present a touching of God......

I have a T-shirt that reads: I CAN EXPLAIN IT TO YOU BUT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT FOR YOU...alas there is wisdom and understanding however there are few who possess the wisdom of understanding.

Ah. John, Truth to point! With Jim, it is not something I want to admit. Sometimes I ache thinking that if tomorrow I quit all my writing and art, he wouldn’t notice. Try to teach him easy basics of relating to poems. It may be taking a little. Thankful I have Soup

Yes, I am curious, thanks for sharing. Baptist - I do like Albert Mohler. Your descriptions of free verse and Haiku are refreshing. I have two dog poems (Sonnet Chiweenie Boo (11.14.2014) & One Day Boo (08.09.2020)). Both are of Boo since Ese just joined the family at the start of this year.

Free verse to me is like drawing, pulling out from the heart and mind’s eyes then traveling in inspiration. Haiku feels like using the other side of brain: presenting then leaping.Will relay the wags! U written any dog poems I can read?

Rob, your comment has.begun my. day with smiles. You couldconsider me, if curious, an Episcopalian/Baptist (as I like waving my hands and shouting praises) I am a trrinitarian mystic since youth :)...

My father is a scientist and he loves poetry, literature, and is deeply religious with a varied collection of books on all subjects...I think it is more about being well balanced and searching for answers from all that is out there; sometimes the training of scientific method makes it hard for some to accept things without validation. While art is very subjective, science is more about gathering data before drawing conclusions whilst trying to eliminate all subjectivity to be objective :)

Jim is 1 of 6 siblings w/a minister dad, so they all were not into spiritual development, which could be judged. I had Unitarian parents but went back a generation to G’ma who taught me Christ & the trinity. Yr dad was lucky wanting self knowledge w/ scientific hugs 4 yr sharing.
