Painting You

Painting You Before painting, I first sketch you In my mind’s eye…To compose The lines, shapes, shadows and lights, That work altogether to form a semblant sight Of you for any relative, friend or acquaintance… Next, I embrace the required courage To face the blank canvas; to dip my brush In sublime tones for my wild orchid wishes, Wanting to stroke across the heavens For reflecting starlights bright, Which I’ll situate to split the darker places Where the inks bleed and branch out Around you, smudging your purest colors… That I endeavor to recover When illness tries to smother You with a viridescent blanket for on-going days; Cloaking the glance of your azure blue eyes; Pulling gray and white from your skull To streak through your forest brown hair; Rushing flag red moments to your cheeks When you growl, “No. Don’t—“ when I Try any way to help you through the fevers That hang dredged plum-violet clouds over The sofa — away — where you stay sleeping… While I sit crimson awake worrying, Watching you breathe…And asking Through faith’s golden prayers for your healing; For our holy Lord to send some ministering angels — With their glistening opaline feathered wings; Who side by side, place hands on you ~ veiling My first view of prayers’ answers coming true; Lifting me to a bloom of rosebud gratitude. I paint you never far. I paint your ocean blue eyes opening. I paint you always beside me in a sandcastle brown. I dapple the air over us an effervescent pink. I paint your prism presence close. I paint your mid-night’s Arora Borealis dancing hues. Our love is a stippled, rolling color wheel Of our linked diamond destinies: journeying Together on amber roads under sapphire skies. ————————————————— (c) sally young eslingwe 10/17-18/2023 Glory to God…

"Next, I embrace the required courage To face the blank canvas; to dip my brush In sublime tones for my wild orchid wishes," -- "I paint you never far. I paint your ocean blue eyes opening. I paint you always beside me in a sandcastle brown. I dapple the air over us an effervescent pink. I paint your prism presence close." Fabulous writing! I am in awe -- need I say more...I hope all is healing in your life. I know well the upsets of illness. Blessings my friend. Oh, a FAV!

This is such a stunning, heartfelt poem dear Sally full of beautifully poetic lines. Absolutely divine that it captivates and draws ( excusing the pun!) the reader in. You are such a gifted poetess. I love, admire, every single line but especially,’‘Where the inks bleed and branch out’ ‘ With their glistening opaline feathered wings’Lifting me to a bloom of rosebud gratitude’. Wow! Your use of colour as an artist is spellbinding. This is a truly inspiring work of art from you. Loved it!

Your verse as always so evocative, Sally, I really feel the 'embrace the required courage to face the blank canvas' - everyone who creates knows that takes its own kind of courage, and the hope you convey in your last stanza is just so inspiring~

what a blessed stroll this is and the lovely fissure that yields the working mind of an artist all the more delight, as we traverse the passageways that never reveal themselves in each stroke of the brush...in my poem "I know why i sit here" i have witnessed such as this sitting with the artist, listening in rapture as his thoughts accompany each stroke, brush or pen we are of the same soul....take a bow Sally, they are in awe and why they are not clapping

Dear friend, Victor, what a sweet comment. As a kid, when mom wanted to get me away so she could read, she’d say, “Go to your room & draw.” haha xxooxo sally

I can feel how challenging it must be for you through your word weaving here, how well you’ve expressed, when handling someone we love who is sick, sometimes it isnt easy, as iv seen that too myself. As for your poem i can help but admire the way you’ve woven words, especially your brilliant use of colors is so very creative and impressive! Excellent flow of words too, and i especially love your use of gems too! And the love that emanates, pleasure reading you.praying for better days for you

Vie, reading your high words of comment, i called “Whoa!” to the air. This was work to tell the story right. I checked every word & punc mark & line placement inc. cutting 60 wds. A labor of love. This wasn’t a poem that just came up in total as some do. “I paint you close” was the initial inspiring line as Jim was in hosp w/me here alone. Love you, Vie!
