The All We Are

You’ll hear it said,
“Our lives are but a—
       Blink!
                    …Hardly
         an instant-in-time
In an infinite/cosmic
                     timelinedesign…”
But see
That we are created each unique,
Like snowflakes
Swirling
    with incandescent beauty
    over lamplit streets…
 Bearing divinely bequeathed
Patterns
    of particular possibilities…

Our lives each shining to inspire,
Like winking stars
    seen piercing
       the dark

Like candles afire —
Bright flames to flicker
Hope
over the suffering life may bring…

~ Like the grasses and flowers everywhere
Purposed in the symphony of being
To
 Grow
from dust on ‘til wilting’s return
        to dust, all
meant metaphors for each of us…

After reading your comment to Tom, I had to come check out your poem. You stitched it together wonderfully. I’m glad I dropped by.

We may be a blink of an eye. Yet it is a pity you stopped writing. Never give up.

Sally, I think you have a grasp on what life is all about. You put it eloquently. I suppose we do have to suffer, and that makes us understand a lot. We get to blossom and then.... You're making me smile!!

Ah what a deep and profound poem woven with such brilliant metaphors and imagery, i love the flow of your words and depth of what youv expressed here, truly hits the soul so very strong: we are all special in our own unique ways, and we all deserve to be celebrated and appreciate for our own individual special traits and characteristics as well as skills! I love the way youv used nature to depict so much! And this is what i believe too! Which is why it is easily a FAVE for me! Sending you light

Our life may be short, but we are created unique and are entrusted with specific missions. Brief though our existence be, we are supposed to shed light like a candle or grow like flowers that sprout from soil and give joy until they wilt and return to soil. We should also thus fulfil our purpose until we return to dust. Beautiful poem, dear Sally.

we are like metaphors but oh so much more , like a candle that burns bright, and before flickering out leaves the memory of its beautiful eternal flame So beautiful Sally, I enjoyed every word.

"Our lives each shining to inspire, Like winking stars seen piercing the dark" -- there is no example of complete death or annihilation in the world. Just graceful and profound, abrupt change. Nothing goes out of existence...why should we be so different? Why not a universe of cooperative thought and feeling in a speck of sand? We know so little of death, even life...yet assume volumes full.

God is eternal and we are a speck in time. Your imagery is wonderful and makes one think.

Dear Sally, this was breathtaking! The way you weaved time, individuality, and purpose into a celestial and earthly dance was stunning. As I read I thought how your words shimmer with both wonder and wisdom almost like snowflakes, stars, and flames, each uniquely brilliant. A truly moving and inspiring piece! We are each truly unique, and yes, life sure does go by quickly, but we each have something to offer those on our journey, before the dust falls and our spirits fly home! Insightful poem Sally, I hope you are well <3

Thanks Bj!yes, i think every life from it’s formation, has a story, even if thatonly would focus on the two people who made him/her to then it’s stillbirth, or abortion, or life journey of 99 yrs. There are none with our fingerprints…God knows the # of hairs on each head! God does not see us as Groups, like immigrants or the conservatives, but as a son or daughter with a Meaning. xox sally
