Thorns

Shall I reside in shadows of past years
like a silhouette where light appears dimmed
as life’s entangled path cuts deep like spears
of perforating thorns overly brimmed?
Shall I guard the fragility of heart
and retreat stumbling with blindfolded sight
unless black shrouds unveils colourful art
of silky roses grown in shades of light?
Shall I remain dwelling and not then seek
life that awaits a brave travellers feet —
yet, would not a fervent heart grow so meek
with a dying rhythm of its own beat?
Amidst faith, scars from life’s thorns slowly heals
upon a path where inner self reveals.

Hi Christine, this is my first visit to your amazing page, but I doubt it will be my last. I'm not usually a sonnet kind of guy but this one I like due to its deep and soulful imagery. Supremely well composed.

Christina this was such a journey into ones life reflecting back in feelings of support and comfort. Being apprehensive of what lies ahead protecting oneself and deciding to take a chance in dealing with what life throws at you. I love how Susan Ashley stated her comment. She is such a great communicator... Where are you? We miss you. Come back...

Wow excellent sonnet dear Christina. "Yet would not a fervent heart grow so meek with a dying rhythm of its own beat" so creative. Loved the positive note of faith at the end. ~ Ani

Oh goodness, this is such a breathtaking and soul-stirring poem with which my heart can immensely relate! You've such an artistic prowess dear Christina and the way you've woven fragile feelings in meticulously crafted metaphors here, ahh, absolutely touched my soul... The torment of some phases in life can dim the glow of even the brightest spirit.. And even the most empathetic souls can feel worn out and lack of love when they are made to go through the harshest storms over and over again. Your lines made me teary-eyed as well... as every word here shook my cores ~ when we continue to lurk in the shadows of past and no light can seem to save us from that poisonous delusion, I have been there myself and can relate thoroughly...

Dearest Christina, soulful poetess and inspiring friend, I relish the contemplative journey of your golden sonnet. Your vivid imagery and beautiful rhythm and rhymes allowed me to reflect on struggles and choices I've faced. Indeed, we can remain in the past or seek new experiences.. let's not let a "fervent heart grow meek" as we heal through faith, embrace the beauty of growth and nurture a deeper understanding of self. Such a splendid, soulful, elegant, eloquent, expressive creation from your shining heart and soul. So glad this exquisite poem was honored with POTW! Congratulations!! Ever your ardent admirer.. warmest wishes my dear friend.. ~Susan

I am so pleased this morning to have stumbled across this striking Sonnet of yours, Christina, one that mirrors your writing talent and deservedly has been honoured with p.o.t.w. Many take life for granted, accept what comes their way, or go with the flow. You, instead think before you act, before you speak, before you jump. May your choices make you happy in life. ~ Warm regards // paul

Christina thank you for stopping by and commenting on my Poetry. I love this piece. When I read it I felt the vulnerability of our being. Trusting and sometimes being hurt, and the pain reaching us deep into us. The difficulty life brings to us in our high and low experiences. Being able to cope and overcome and being resilient in having hope in others and ourselves. Taking those steps to making a new friend, trusting, and overcoming what life throws at us. This is a favorite, you are talented..

Dear Christina, What a haunting poem that rightfully deserves to be POTW! Yes, how long does one dwell in the shadows of past experiences, symbolized by your poem through dimmed light and entangled paths. Everyone has vulnerabilities and deserves protection and as you eloquently convey that we should be guarding our heart against pain of life's thorny challenges. It does take courage to place your beliefs in faith and allow time to heal the scars from life's hardships. I loved how you showed that it reveals one's true inner self through this process. Congrats on such a thought-provoking poem. Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel
