Hi Soupers, As you know as writers we're often thinking about things. Today I'm thinking about negativity and how does one deal with it. I'm noticing some of it around here. So my question to you is what do you when negative arrows are being aimed at you for no reason at all?

Hi Alexis! Congrats on launching your first blog! I'm stopping by to give my moral support:) ~ I have not encountered much negativity on this site. The best way to counter it is by being positive. A negative attitude most probably is derived from ignorance, jealousy or a misplaced sense of superiority. Same as FJ, I would just ignore it.

Negative people,Negative news ,Negative world,could easily drag us down under. Sometimes it could be found even in one of our family members.I do try my best to show them life is beautiful by telling them,but mostly by living positivity in front of them.My husband many times accuses me of being too positive,but Id rather believe that bad situations happen tomake usbetter and stronger people than toweaken us and destroy us. An example, I am in a room with negative people. They keep talking down the things I like and I am outnumbered. I walk out of the room! (maybe I tell them to shut the hell up on my way out of the room!)

Alexis. While visiting my in-laws, who watch fox news 24/7, I tried to speak my mind after I had heard their Obama bashing all day long. They are old and sick and I made everyone angry just for finally speaking up. you cannot fight ignorance. When people's minds are so filled with negativity from years of being fed info that is not always true. You have to simply get up and leave the room, which I did. I did have my little hissy fit as I left and I had to hear my husband on my back about it the rest of the night for getting his parents' feathers ruffled. Like a Kenny Rogers sang: Gotta know when to fold 'em.

I try very hard to avoid negative people cos they just bring me down.However sometimes you run smack into them!Then I use humor to maybe get them on a more positive track. If that doesn't work then I'm outta there !

Alexis, Sometimes I find it useful, especially if the foe has a valid point. If they do not have a valid point, I will either play with them for a little while, or try to discover why they are angry. On rare occasions, I will just cut them off, but usually, my curiosity has me engage them.

I'm comfortable where I am at, Alexis. When negative remarks are aimed at me. I've learned to smile and turn away. Sometimes, it is hard. --I'm known for my smartypants remarks. I will not lash out at anyone, unless someone is out to attack my loved ones. People can be sour at times. I'm not perfect. I admit, I spewed a few words in the past, then I moved on. But, as of then I decided not engage in any kind of negativeness forming from this site. Yes, I will speak on my blogs if something is bothering me. - I will write poems. It helps get things off the chest. It's way better than having an open conflict, trying to prove NOTHING. I'm not a negative person, that you should know. I love keeping a very positive attitude. I have not seen anything negative lately. I hope you are doing well, after all you are AWESOME ALEXIS. :)

I tend to keep life simple.If I'm lucky maybe 80 or 85 years, really not much time when you put it in perspective.So to answer your question, Why on earth would I allow words or a point of view bother me?To what cause so one of us can say we win.To me life and its journey has enough complications without allowing fragile emotions to direct my thinking.To be strong you must free yourself from over reaction and understand why someone says or does what they do.Behind negitivity you will find fear.It is the sword of the weak to strike out or complain about attack.When one can see the world beyond themself, they will find peace.Turmoil is a card played for attention.It says, look at me... please.

Alexis, I think as a writer we need to focus on our doing, we should not let ourselves be discouraged. "Stay strong" there is no way one can do with it, both negative and positive we will somehow come across it, I think that is what will make us strong ..............A.M.

I used to get upset about it Alexis especially when my poetry style was criticised and called 'simple' - I nearly gave up writing - but I had lots of lovely people who supported me - I got strong - if someone doesn't like my style or what I write - simple - they don't have to read or comment. There will be issues in a community like this - we simply need to learn to rise above them :-) hugs jan xx
