My Solace, A Poet's Thoughts on Poetry

The wonder of nature you describe with the color of feelings that even the blind sees the beauty, for you anoint with your sight. From my forgotten core, words you inspire gush forth in indignant prose like the lion who protects her young, who roars in warning lest she devour. You lend me insight from your wisdom and give me laughter with your wit, you pump the pulse in my veins when passion and sensuality is lit. You kindle the fire in this heart when love is found and collect the ash from the burnt cinder that haunts, when love is lost. You hold my breath in exhilaration when I soar to triumphant heights, the balm that soothes my pain when I’m down, your song remains the solace I have found when life is hard, and the one profound expression of the myriad emotions that defy words of common use. O Poetry, you bring tears to my eyes, when in your lines I feel God cries as I endure and withstand the ugliness, the haughtiness, of someone’s pride. Yet with the turn of page and time, you coax from my lips such radiant smile for with each stage in this life of mine, a poem is birthed, flutters, and flies.

Kim, you have splendidly created some of the many meanings poetry and I are in love. Your truths touch all my to my senses. Your verse also explains some of the ways poetry is an artform that I am grateful to have found sooner than later. It's bedrock lays in your true to life realization, "a poem is birthed, flutters and flies". This makes you a true creator. with love Jill

Kim, congratulations on your win. You have certainly captured a poet's feelings and spirit in this poem. I could see myself in all you wrote. I think we can all relate. Glad you entered this poem in Shadow's contest. Being a newbie, I might have missed it. :) Janece

Hello Kim, I missed your poem here earlier. I was gone on two trips in May. This is very well-done!! Your description of "A Poet's Worth" is quite telling and the imagery coupled with the metaphors you've used blend to produce a passionate result!! And the last phase is the last verse: " a poem is birthed, flutters, and flies," says it all. A "7" + FAV!! Best Always, Gary7

No Problem Kim ever!! I agree you did the right thing by blocking this person. None of us are here for the mockery and derision of others because they cannot and will not behave like professionals and adults. People that make these comments are juvenile and if one were to really dig down, one would find they probably don't know much about real writing at all. (This has been my experience!) Just keep doing all the wonderful things you're doing. You will always have my support and the support of others!! Best Always, Gary

Keep up your phenomenal work Kim!! I think you're doing fantastic with your writing. You were certainly right, by the way, to respond as you did to the gentleman's less than polite comments above. Learning and writing good poetry is a daily experience through study and careful application. I still make mistakes all the time, but I've gotten much better at catching them (HA HA). And so, I think you're doing great!! Have a super weekend too!! And keep "spilling ink" daily!! Best Wishes, Gary
