Moment of Truth

I was walking with two friends of mine,
when we saw a woman
who was tall, beautiful and black
They spoke lewd to her,
so she didn't speak back
In their rejected anger,
they cursed her in a cruel, mean tone
That's when I interceded,
and said leave the poor woman alone
My two friends looked at me
like I was some kinda traitor
That day we parted ways,
there would be no more days of "see ya later"

In a moment of truth,
will you stand up for the truth?
Or will you back down,
and keep your mouth shut?

It's moments like those
that reveal what manner of person you are
Will you be naked or clothed?
Will your spirit be dark,
or will it shine like a star?

Nobody ever said friendships are forever,
not when you have to compromise
your integrity in a matter

In a moment of truth,
don't keep your mouth closed
Let your voice roar
like a lion, strong and bold!

I love this write, My mom taught me never let a man treat you bad or anyone else. I taught it to my 28 yr old daughter & talking with my 9 yr old granddaughter as well :)

Well said and nicely put into poetry. Its a temptation to keep quiet when such situations arise.

Great poem , great message . Let truth and honor always stand above all. If one does that and friends object to it then let not such be your friends. Closing stanza sums its up perfectly . A7 and a fav with this gem.

There is so much truth in your write, Freddie:) it's never essential to stick to 'friends' when they are wrong, for if they are really true friends, they'll mend their ways:) congratulations on POTD:) keep roaring aloud:)

I can imagine you giving them 'what for' RW. Good on ya too. You don't need friends like that mate. Well penned RW.

Friends and I use the term loosely, are just that. Every man should be his own man/woman with their own values and morals. Any man who would compromise his integrity just to have a "friend" is not much of a man or a "friend". I love this one Freddie. Great message!

Hi Freddie, I really enjoyed this well written piece and it's message as well. Standing up for truth takes courage but not standing for truth is just the opposite. If this is true, that woman that you showed kindness is forever grateful. Either way I enjoyed the read. A big seven and a fav:-) Alexis

Good question, I know I couldn't stand back and watch another being ridiculed or hurt in any way. And keeping my big mouth shut has never been something I am good at. people deserve kindness and respect until they prove otherwise. Great message
