Scars

The scars of abuse run so deep,
most of my life they defined me.
I wore a shield, that folk couldn't see
held my pain close, was mine to keep.
Today I'm free; no longer weep.

I am glad that you have been able to escape the hold that abuse has had on you and really life your life. Be sure to write about it for others to see and be reminded of the fact that abuse of all kinds still exists in this world. Thanks for sharing. Sara K

Coming from your heart, dear Alexis. Some scars take time to heal. Once freed from their pain, freed for ever. Through grace, your heart is now healed and your tears, dried. Beautiful poem.

Looooove this. People may never understand how abuse affects a person even well after it stops. Often triggers can bring back memories or feelings related to the abuse. It's not that we are damaged it is the abusers who are. Our body and mind are coping the way it knows how. With God support and tool we can overcome both the stigmas and the abuse. Thanks for writing this! You rock Alexis.

Im loving the depth of this poem and the rhymes and how you’ve written in a very resonating manner. So many hide their pain, as scars of abuse run deep. To be able to let go of all that is an achievement one which deserves to be heard about, someday, there will be light. No longer will we weep. Love it
