Inspired muses reach out from the page To touch the hearts and minds of those who read Their presence in descriptive rhymes, a sage In words of ink your thoughts become a seed I wonder if it's ever crossed your mind Someone in years to come might feel your muse Will it be inspiration they will find Or will your words just leave them more confused? And yet we bleed our muse to feel the high Then cover up the blood in metaphors We make them laugh, so no one sees us cry Those fears we hide in words forevermore But muses rarely ever get the blame Cause down below, they wisely sign your name. by Daniel Turner

There is a kind of high, isn't there? Even if they are only read for one day, those who read your work are then tuned into you. And those that know you well can tell when you bleed Daniel. One of the wonders of Poetrysoup, this conscious stream.

Well, of course it's nice to see others appreciate our work. But to me work is the opposite of how I feel about the little pieces of me released here. it's my pleasure.

Yes, Jean and thank you. I think anytime one polishes their vanity, they feel a high, for lack of a better word. In the end, isn't that what we are doing, polishing our vanity?

Daniel, sometimes I'm confused with my own poetry a week later, so in a hundred years people if they take the time to read it are going to be just absolutely exasperated.

Very clever ending, Daniel. Made me chuckle. Very cool and truthful poem in regard to most poets/poetesses. Personally, I try not to talk over the heads of readers. Don't try to prove that I'm the smartest person in the room ... cause Lord knows I'm not. Do I bleed for my poetry to be read ... nah. Been writing poetry for years, never tried to publish it, and journalism is my skill set. Love your poem though.

I love what you have said here! So many great thoughts we might ponder. Who knows at the click of our mouse, who may someday read a poem we have written, and what they will make of it? So often after all my time on the Soup, I never give much thought to the reader, just write for the pleasure, the experience I get from it. I often forget that it is "out there". Thank you for reminding me...such food for thought this dandy little poem is !! :)

Very cool Daniel. The last two lines were gold. Quite thought provoking as well as humorous...what will some think if they find our work many years after we are gone. Hmmm.
