My biography will be very limited for now.   Here , I can express myself in poetic form but in real life I much rather prefer to be far less forward  I am a 60 year old American citizen , born and raised in the glorious South! A heritage that I am very proud of and thank God for as it is a blessing indeed ~

Currently married to my beautiful young wife(Riza) a lovely filipina  lady and we have a fantastic 7 year old son, Justin ~

I have truly lived a very wild life as a younger man but now find myself finally very happily settled down for the duration of my life~

I decided to rest here and express myself with hopes that it may in some way help others, for I see here a very diverse  and fine gathering of poets, artists, and caring folks~

Quickly finding friends here that amaze me with such great talent~~

I invite any and all to comment on my writes and send me soup mail to discuss

whatever seems important to them ~

The hope of eternal life is not to be taken up upon slight grounds. It is a subject to be settled between God and your own soul; settled for eternity. A supposed hope, and nothing more, will prove your ruin.

Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death. If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.

The Gifts of Men

There are many gifts of the youthful apparent

across the earth, those that the soul-bearing carry

in their brains, just as the God of Armies here,

the Measurer so powerfully, has doled out unto humanity

given as a unique present, sending them wide afield,

his own privileges, and every one of them

may be taken up by some of those living among the people. (ll. 1-7)

There are no men upon the earth so blessed with misery,

nor so moderate of prosperity, so craven of spirit,

nor so delayed of courage, that the granter of grace

should deprive them of every skill of the mind,

or mighty deed, wise in wit or in wordy statements,

lest they be hopeless in all matters—

those which God wrought in this worldly life,

all these gracious gifts—God would never deem

that any should become so wretched. (ll 8-17)…

Robert Herrick

Eternity

O years! and age! farewell:

Behold I go,

Where I do know

Infinity to dwell.

And these mine eyes shall see

All times, how they

Are lost i' th' sea

Of vast eternity:--

Where never moon shall sway

The stars; but she,

And night, shall be

Drown'd in one endless day.

Earth, Mortal Life, Is It A Prelude To Eternity

The real challenge, the virgin path to take

Youth and its mysteries - things we forsake

As rising to greet dawn and feel its rays

Sense of peace, hope that it forever stays

That brief time just before golden sun sets

Those fleeting loves, with age one never forgets.

The real challenge, the virgin path to take.

Youth and its mysteries - things we forsake.

That first day, seeing a forever beach

Sweet new love, once thought so far beyond reach

Princess met me, holding my trembling hand

We both barely sixteen, walking white sands

That brief time just before golden sun sets

That first glowing love,  that one never forgets.

The real challenge, the virgin path to take.

Youth and its mysteries - things we forsake.

And the now, when a billion years has flown

The in-between, ahead lies great unknown

When daylight yields to a powerful dark

To a bloody battle we must embark

That brief time just before golden sun sets

That first glowing love,  that one never forgets.

The real challenge, the virgin path to take.

Youth and its mysteries - things we forsake.

As the path into a golden sunset

Life was not about, treasures one could get

It was the joy of love and being free

And promise of one day- eternity.

The real challenge, the virgin path to take.

Youth and its mysteries - things we forsake.

A Quest Finished, An Epic Truth Found

There in fertile green valley of contemplation

Yet lies those eager seeds of wicked damnation

Sprung from the dark-set and evil heart born of greed

Pleasures that lurk to strike, as a snake in the weeds

That which mankind embraces in its quest for more

Ever seeking to steal gold from paradise shores.

There in swollen streams yet awaits ready to pounce

Wanton greed that measures all by the golden ounce

And ravaging darkness born in a world of hate

Firm and loyal ally with wicked hands of Fate

That which mankind embraces in its quest for more

Ever seeking to steal gold from paradise shores.

Surely as truth weds divine handmaidens of light.

Faith and Love conquers terrors of the darkest night.

Sonnet,

There rests the wonderment of true art. What heart and soul poets impart. Life, love and beauty in dear life. Countering world's razor sharp knife. Those wicked cuts destined to be. And dawn's rays, love's true blessing tree. Poetry, gems you and by me.....

https://poets.org/text/poem-changed-my-life-hart-cranes-eternity The idea of choosing a single poem as one that has informed my poetry is both fascinating and absurd. I have never been asked to discuss one transformative poem before. The question traditionally has been "What writer, or writers, influenced you?," and the reference might be, in various ways, to the work and the life of that poet, a terrifying and confusing question, especially because, in my case, I always had to account for Whitman—his long walks, his death by water, and his biblical rhythms.

continued-- * In those golden dreams I recall. Your long auburn hair late that Fall. How sweetly you danced with me. Now tis your true beauty I see. And with bitter tears I bemoan. Sitting in this life all alone. * Darling, now I suffer the most. In midnight dreams begging your ghost. To re-flame love, fly here to me. Now I admit what I could not see. Those great sorrows I caused thee.....

In those waters, those flowing of past years. Dare one look back in gasping thought. Not afraid to shed weeping tears. Or regretting the pains thus brought. Aye, life its heartaches gives so free. As are waves splashing on the sea.

Robert, I enjoyed reading from the links provided, though it may've been a mistake trying between three minute eggs. I saw Andrea's comment and must agree. Your Haiku 'A Winter Night At The Old Cabin' is wonderfully written. Took me back to my own childhood frozen creek behind the glow of houses in a clear cold winter's night. -Richard

Alexander Pope, ‘Eloisa to Abelard’. This poem by the neoclassical poet Alexander Pope (1688-1744) earns its place on this list partly because of its most famous line, ‘The eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.’ The section of the poem in question runs: How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d; Labour and rest, that equal periods keep; ‘Obedient slumbers that can wake and weep …’

My eggs are usually scrambled and served with bacon, biscuit and a hot cup of coffee. I too can remember staring across the water into the cold frozen night and wondering how it was a couple hundred years before when they braved the elements without the modern conveniences we have today. God bless..

Thank you my friend. This blog was a hard task for me but a truly enjoyable endeavor as well. I let the memory lead me into the flow and the beauty of youth, the mystery that then lay ahead and the way life unfolded. Even how that time span affected my poetry. What I lost back then-- what I have since gained. God bless...

Your "Earth, Mortal Life, Is It A Prelude To Eternity" resonates strongly with me. Reminds me of the Maryland summers I spent at the beach so long ago. Every season of my life has been good and blessed, but those summers are among my favorites. And those fleeting loves, so many different ways our lives could have gone.

William Blake, ‘Eternity’. This short poem by the Romantic visionary poet William Blake (1757-1827) is short enough to be quoted here in full: He who binds to himself a joy Does the winged life destroy He who kisses the joy as it flies Lives in eternity’s sunrise. The poem can be said to encapsulate Blake’s central moral tenets of freedom and selflessness, especially concerning the natural world.

Thank you my friend. Your comment inspires me to attempt to continue my bloggings. Youth is truly a most wonderful and magical time in our lives. And truth is- sometimes looking back can be a sad thing but other times it brings such epic joy and longings of that moment, that era , that being with family and friends. As you said, the beach, the summers there and the thought that such was a great blessing! God bless..

John Clare, ‘An Invite to Eternity’. Like Blake and Wordsworth, Clare was a Romantic poet. This haunting poem draws on the natural world for its imagery, but it’s an unnerving address from a strange male speaker to a ‘sweet maid’. He seems to be beckoning her into death, that ‘one eternity’ in which they will both be joined: The land of shadows wilt thou trace And look – nor know each other’s face The present mixed with reasons gone And past, and present all as one Say maiden can thy life be led To join the living to the dead Then trace thy footsteps on with me We’re wed to one eternity …

Emily Dickinson, ‘Forever – Is Composed of Nows’. Forever – is composed of Nows – ’Tis not a different time – Except for Infiniteness – And Latitude of Home – From this – experienced Here – Remove the Dates – to These – Let Months dissolve in further Months – And Years – exhale in Years … So begins this poem from Dickinson, which sees eternity as a succession of moments, which always form the present. It’s as if Dickinson is answering Stoppard’s question from the top of this blog post, before he’d even asked it, with the response: ‘eternity will never end because it never starts – it’s a continual process made up of the here and now’.

Thank you my friend. I couldn't resist including the quotes- as each is a gem, a truth and a brilliant observation. The haiku form is rapidly becoming a new fav for me. And that even tho' so oft now the blues enter my soul and my poetry suffers. God bless..
