As I Watched the Fiery Red Sun Slip Behind the Mountain

As I Watched The Fiery Red Sun Slip Behind The Mountain As I watched the fiery red sun slip behind the mountain I tossed a silver dollar in the wishing well fountain My dear wish was for the hand of my very passionate lover And life together that such bountiful happiness covers She that tells me, "my darling, my sleepy head, rise thee from bed" Let us sightsee this world, and watch that huge falling ball of red Me there pretending not to hear, but my lover knows my game She laughingly dances right on over and yells out the same And then she lays a very soft and a long passionate kiss And that is the sweetest blessing that I did not want to miss I reached out to snatch my lover into our large silk bed Saying, "darling let just stay here and make sweeter love instead." As I watched the fiery red sun slip behind the mountain. I tossed a silver dollar in the wishing well fountain. Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet 9-07-2023

Thank you, my friend. The poem is based upon real life, my relationship with a totally drop-dead gorgeous lady. Was truly a deep romance but circumstances and her family broke it up. God bless you my friend.

Oh you're indeed a storyteller and the way this one began with "as I watched the fiery red sun slip behind the mountain" That definitely is so intriguing.. You've presented a whole graceful and heartwarming scene of blissful dawn, painting such splendid hues of love.. Wow.. Tossing a silver dollar in the wishing well reflects how one hopes to manifest his/her dream of truthful love.. So beautiful.. It's always a wonderful experience whenever I read your beautiful poetry!

Thank you, my good friend. Yes, it was a truly great romance. Sad part is her family managed to break it up. It lasted just a bit over 10 months, with the last month us arguing. Her parents got their way and she moved back to California. Took me a long, long time to get over that great loss. God bless you.

I will always admire your powerful muse especially where sonnets are concerned. Alas I lost my muse these days.

Victor my friend , your muse may have left you for a short while but they always return. Yours is too powerful to stay hidden too long, imho. Thank you, my friend for reading my poem and commenting. Trust me she will return! God bless you..

Beautiful story, and great visuals, imagining a warm love that you deserve, through poetry, now thats really descriptive and very well articulated for readers. I love them fountains where you can toss a coin or two and wish something, somehow gives hope, like how when you catch a shooting star and make a wish. My fave part about this poem is your title and the opening. So good! Love this. Fave

Thank you, my friend. Yes, as a poet I would rather present positive and happy poems than those of the other vein. But truth is in my youth I sadly experienced several lost love episodes. Each one felt like I was going too die. God bless..
