A Dream, a Glorious Trip To Heaven

A Dream, A Glorious Trip To Heaven That laugh with the soft soothing breeze Floating with such an easy ease Bit strange, almost a mystery Ghost like, like a lost ship at sea O'my is that a sailor there And another makes it a pair I can see their long searching faces O' my they go to other places Now on deck on a flying star I wonder, I wonder how far Could this be just another dream The great imagery makes it seem Am I floating aloof right now But Lord, bless my soul as to how? Yes, now just ahead golden gates. Heaven rich and fine, am I late? Robert J. Lindley, Jan. 11th 1971 Sonnet- 16 verses

Wow, such a great poem from a seventeen-year-old Robert. I remember having dreams, and sometimes they were so very real to me back then, sometime, honestly, I still wonder about them. I'm glad you have poems from that time in your life, quite a serious poem. An awesome write, especially from one so young.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, I think it is a good plan for we poets to write about our dreams. As I have done that for 52 years now. Dreams make wonderful fodder for poetry. Even if they seem absolutely crazy they still are good subjects/themes for poetry. God bless.

This seems like a dream for sure, definitely a very euphoric state of mind, or maybe one where you were emotionally in a heavenly. I always love a poem with many questions and your sonnet does have that. And i must highlight the imagery and rhymes. And this also somehow, is a way of imagining what and how it would feel finally reaching gates of heaven. I would like to know from your words what your thoughts were at 17 when you wrote this, gifted poet you are

I was when writing that one wondering about death and getting to Heaven. My father had died on about a year and a half before. His death changed me greatly. Turned me against this dark world for a very, very long time my friend. God bless you.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, that is so true, dreams are mental images we create while asleep. Sometimes they seem so real. God bless.
