How We Compose Poems As True, Dedicated Poets

How We Compose Poems As True, Dedicated Poets I love how a poem starts with the first dreamy word Just as beautiful melodies beg to be heard Then poet quite wide awake and clear starts to dream Soon he is picking up like locomotive on steam Bringing heart and mind into a much higher gear Truth and fantasy begin like song from birds Does not matter if about love or abject fear What matters, imagination, life, love may gift words But the poet may be a beginner or star What reader wants is to touch that dear beating heart Does not matter, the when, where, how or who you are Poetry pleases reader and is a fine start. As poets we cast images to others please. For some, may be hard, for others may be with ease. Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet Jan 20th 1972

This is such a lovely sonnet dear Robert. I too, like Tom, love that you regard equally both a beginner and a more experienced poet. Your generosity, fairness, loving heart, shines through here. I love the line,’ What reader wants is to touch that dear beating heart’. I couldn’t agree more. Also love the concluding couplet. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you for a wonderful week.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, the beating heart is the soul put into poetry. We write for others to read and oft we send message in out poems. I know that I do in well over half of my many poems. I figure if a poem helps even just one person , then it is a fine success. God bless you...

Thank you, my friend. I did put extra effort into this one. As it was about writing poetry. Had to put much in the sonnet formatt. Many years ago. I wrote a poem about this subject that was about 88 verses long. I wish I had that poem now because I wrote in classic style, language. God bless you...

Sometimes we just have to let our fingers loose on the keyboard and let the process flow. We all want to touch someone's heart and strike a chord with readers and fellow poets. We just have to start. Nicely constructed sonnet, Sara

The portrayal of the birth of a poem by poets is truly captivating, Robert. It amazes me how a poem begins with a single enchanting word, reminiscent of the ethereal melodies longing to be heard. This observation resonates deeply and accurately captures the essence of the poetic process.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, but to we poets it is a joy to compose and then to share with the world. Most poems carry a message to the readers. I know mine do. God blessyou.

Wonderful rendition through the hearts and minds of poets, describing how a poem is born. I love how a poem starts with the first dreamy word Just as beautiful melodies beg to be heard--so true and on the mark, Robert. A FAVE.

Thank you, my friend. That first word so often is the beginning of magic splashed in ink. A gift poets give to this needy world. Poetry lovers know this and read with great anticipation and delight. God bless you.

I like that you give equal credit to newbie or pro. We're all trying to communicate in a unique way, ie, through poetry. Therefore, we all get an A for effort. Can't believe this is fifty years old!

Thank you, my friend. Poetry is in itself a great gift to WE that receive, know it and compose it. I think it is indeed aa godsend to us. As such we are to share it with others in the hope that it may in some way help them in life. That is why I write and my every poem carries a message . God bless you.

Years ago, I wrote a very long classic poem on this subject and later I wrote this shorter poem. The very long poem was burned by a very vindictive person. But this much shorter and simpler poem was in another tablet. The one I recently found.
