Humanity Exists As Sad Creatures With Evil Skins

Humanity Exists As Sad Creatures With Evil Skins

Reprieve may be a fine desert or a freedom to live
A blessing freely granted or the power to freely give
But we must dare admit what immense courage some things take
And use our smart brains to identify the sorrowful fakes
For humans react to threats in many kinds of strange ways
But evil exists and demand opponents dearly pays
War savagery that with pure delight evil men do
Truth is one sorrowful day it may attack me and you
This world to oft engages in darkness and destruction
Mankind adopts wickedness as primary instructions
We have no true safeguards when war its ugly head does raise
Best if we trust our God, and give his Son our faithful praise.

Humanity exists as sad creatures with evil skins.
Full of selfish desires, greed in hearts of women and men.

Robert J. Lindley, dark sonnet
Jan. 21st, 1972

Note. This is the truth about humanity.
Unless under Christ's banner, they too oft exist as evil creatures on the take, imho.

You've expressed such harsh shades of humanity and cruelty here. Wars and bloodshed have never proven beneficial to anyone, all the sides suffer and moreover, we lose our biggest virtues, that our moral values. Sigh, so many deep and emotional lines here.. Your writes always unlock a vivid dimension of thinking for me and this one was too heartfelt to read. Brilliantly done!

Thank you, my friend. Yes, war is a sad and tragic form of cruelty and barbarism. This is no positive attributes to such death and destruction. God bless you.

This would make a great foundational basis for an early Black Sabbath song, and considering the year you wrote it a possible influence? In any case, the war pigs are never sated, and neither is Sheol

Even back to days of Adam and Eve, we read of wars and disasters. And it's all our fault for we ignore what God wants from us. Great sonnet.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, ever since Eve took that bite humanity has attached itself to Satan and darkness, imho. God bless you.

To be under Christ’s banner is to be under the banner of hope, not wishful thinking but knowing that comes the worst we will walk into the forevermore of blessing and see Christ’s glorious face…what a day! God bless you, Robert! I do like that you write about the darkness for we cannot ignore that part of humanity.

Thank you, my good friend. Yes, we poets must not shun away from the dark. As humanity itself is dark. We should warn in verse of that danger. God bless you.
