To Ask My Mentor, Will I, Sir Will I, Ever a Great Poet Be

To Ask My Mentor, Will I, Sir Will I, Ever A Great Poet Be So like a eighteenth-century painting, her almond face this year's flowing sky and sun flashings paler by the day ghostly marble and statues grinning at a slow dying dawn and my sad heart grieving for that which nothing can replace as the moon ran away and the forest turned dark grey. There in the lonesome shadow, a statue of Master Poe his stern face, almost questioning my old poetic soul have you your poet's heart gifted to the old God of verse then I could his voice hear saying, a golden coin for the toll and from the far crowded distance, a goddess rehearsed. She of grand beauty, her eyes a cool-thrown Chimera bright Saw my shudder and cried, be not thee afraid young man I am but wandering child of winter's cold and frigid breath I come here with the fleeting edge of dark night my new plan And prepare those dying of the dragon's most horrid hot death. It was then she cried and darkness fell deeper than a flock of crows Poe said, young man be thee stout as a true hero not afraid The goddess is master of higher emerald cast poetic verse I stay to speak directly into the young and clear poetic souls Touch my head, drain essence of the long lost poets and feel. Dawn cast new light and the alarm rang so damn loud I woke quite suddenly and saw as my first new glance Master Poe in the far corner vanishing in a quick blink It was then I thought, damn that was my only chance To ask my mentor, will I, sir will I, ever a great poet be? I don’t think most poets have living mentors. I have one….a great human being. I am sorry that I never was able to study classical poetry in university. But I wasn’t in Poetry at that time.. so I have to fly by the seat of my pants. I also learn via Zoom classes and podcasts . You have been a MentorA And you are a mentor to me here, one who inspires me and lights the path. You always make time for me..Thank you, we are never in competition. Pangie xx

Thank you, my good friend. I am ever in competition with anybody here. My poems are my art and I CREATE because it pleases me primarily. Of course, I also hope that it pleases my readers too. Most if my poems contain a message I am sending, if readers do not get it, well maybe they shouldn't get it. God bless you

Excellent rhymes and flow to your poem.. You do not need a mentor my friend, maybe back in 1972 you did.. but you have developed into mentor yourself..

Thank you, my good friend. I have had 52 years of writing poetry. Only a few very dear friends knew I wrote poetry. I did it for my own entertainment and rarely ever showed anybody my work back then. But I did read the famous poets and study their works. I guess that it paid off because often I can write entire poems without stopping until the ending. Only in collaborations do I slow down to match the theme and the other fine poet. God bless you.

the answer depends on whether you have a "mentor" or a "tormentor"...A wild ride in this one and I imagine that the "jury" is still out on the verdict.....

Yes, my friend, the verdict is pending and only will be given upon my expiration--if then? I am ever a most hopeful lad on that my friend.. God bless you.

Thank you, my friend. I oft feel that I have both. Sometimes the verses just rush out of me and sometimes I have to pull them from the dark and murky depths of an imprisoned mind in its raging and lonely caverns. God bless you.
