For the most part, I'm a romantic poet, but I also venture into satire, humor, nature, spirituality, existentialism, etc. I don't shy away from the sad and dark themes as well. I started writing poetry in November 2006. However, after losing my poetry notebook with about 135 poems in early 2009, I lost my passion for poetry completely. I was jobless for almost a year due to the recession of 2014, during that time period, I reignited my passion for poetry to stave off boredom. I discovered Poetrysoup and started posting my poems in 2016. The first poem I posted, "Wings of A Butterfly." My poems "Sing To Me, Nightingale", "Unfulfilled Dream" and "A Waxing Crescent" appeared in the first issue of Poesis Online Journal. My biography and poem "Musings of An Aging Man" features in the "My Poet Friends" section of Emile Pinet's poetry book, "A Match In The Dark." My poems "Say You Will," "Winds of Night," and "Echo Chasing" appeared in the "PS: It's Poetry" Anthology." My poems "Apogee of Grief", "To Be Loved" and "Sweet on You" appeared in the "PS: It's Still Poetry, Volume 2" Anthology." My poems "Ambling Through The Meadow" and "Depression" appeared in the "Reflections on the Important Things" anthology.

I'm currently working as a Lot Associate at The Home Depot.

I'm a Navy Veteran.

I'm Nigerian-American born in Lima, Ohio in October 28th, 1976.

I grew up mostly in Baltimore, Maryland.

I'm married to a wonderful woman(and Registered Nurse!), Helen.

I have a baby daughter named Isabelle.

Graduated from Lake Clifton Campus(formerly Lake Clifton Eastern High School), Baltimore, Maryland in 1995.
Graduated from Essex Community College in 2003 and Brightwood College(formerly TESST College of Technology) in 2005.
Certifications: Electronics Technology, Telecommunications, Fiber-Optics/Copper Network Cabling.

In defense of all the winners of my recent contest

You can't make everyone happy as a contest judge/sponsor. Pretty sad that we sometimes have to deal with nasty soupmails, but that's okay! But to dismiss the poems of the poets I placed as incorrect? Not okay. Aditi Mishra, William Kekaula, Andrea Dietrich, Tom Cunningham, Vijay Pandit, James Inman, Subimal Sinha-Roy, Howard Kerr, Jan Allison, Jenna Logan, Constance La France, and Krish Radhakrishna all wrote wonderful poems and followed the 11-11-11-5 syllables Their Sapphic Stanza poems were just fine TO ME, that's why I placed them. I have absolutely no regrets. My next contest should be up soon.

Thanks for my placement in your contest and hosting it with brilliant themes. Sapphic stanza is such a wonderful format I would be using it again, thanks to you. It is an unsaid rule that we respect the decision of the sponsor. Judging the poetry contest is more difficult than being an examiner in a medical school which I am! People who complain are revealing a facet of their personality that we need to do nothing about! Edward, keep going! You are doing a great job!

You did well and don't let anyone tell you any different. If there's no date or what is required in the rules I don't even bother to read them. Before the contest is over I will go back to see if anyone had noticed their mistake and corrected it, so I can place them. Great job my friend. Hugs Eve

Can't believe folk Soupmail sponsors griping about whether or not they placed. You win some you lose some, I've had plenty n/a s and it never entered my head to moan to the sponsor about it. Ignore them Edward, you and the other sponsors do a great job. Have a great weekend. Tom

Bottom line - your contest, you run it ANY way you wish to ... you have always been a poet member of character, integrity, class, and kindness, and as such, above reproach. Don't let this stuff get to you, Brother, otherwise you'll end up largely inactive, (like me and so many others of late). Blessings! ;o)

I’m so sorry to hear about this Edward. I wish people didn’t have to act so childish. I’ve entered many contests and not placed. I’ve never once sent a mean soup mail because I didn’t place. I just tried harder on the next one. The ones that complain on your decision are probably entitled little brats in desperate need of a participation ribbon.

Ed, sorry people are giving you backlash from your contests. I have experienced that as well, especially with rude comments about my judging in some of my previous contests. It is rude and disrespectful and childish. The bottom line is that you're the judge and can place winners as you want to. I think that the alternative of no longer running contests people would not really want. Blocking always helps if needed. Thank you for hosting contests on PS and I hope you continue to do so !

You're welcome, Tania:) It's actually only a childish troll who calls himself "The Baron." I placed him at 2nd place in my last contest and he not only rejected it outright, he trolled me via soupmail,which was funny yet sad: he came across very immature. Such characters are impossible to take seriously. I would've deleted his soupmail and carried on with my day had he focused only on me, but I didn't appreciate his rude dismissiveness of other poets(winners of my contest) and their work. But he's been blocked; problem solved:). I appreciate the encouragement, my friend!

If a poet goes to the trouble of sponsoring a contest, and all the time that may involve, the only opinion that should matter is the sponsor's judgement. That doesn't mean those who didn't place might disagree, but to attack the sponsor and those who were awarded placements is petty and puerile. "Oh, yeah," some might say, "you can mouth off about that because you made the list." I would still agree with your assessment, Edward, and I'm very sorry that you were approached with anger. I may be new to the site, and this is my first time commenting on a blog, but I appreciate your defense. I hope I didn't over step any boundary with my thoughts.

No, Jenna, you didn't overstep any boundaries:-) It has happened a LOT here. We've lost a great deal of seasoned poets who ran contests; attacked via soupmail by poets they disqualified. I don't mind poets asking me why I either N/Aed their poems or placed their poems the way they didn't like. I'd justify my placings, if one asks me in a civil manner. It's about respect. You give it, you get it back. I'm not one to take a beating; some people end up leaving. I respond in kind to personal attacks. I refuse to tolerate any kind of nonsense!
