Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

Our Sick and Suffering Poetry Members

Blog Posted:11/5/2021 9:18:00 AM

Recently I got a message from Panagiota Romios that she fell and broke her left leg, shattering her kneecap. She faces surgery and hard days of physical therapy ahead. She is very depressed and at her age, breaking bones is something considered very hard to go through. (Just found out she has had the surgery and must wait a while for the therapy which will take probably past Christmas time!)

In addition to Pangie (Panagiota), Robert Lindley (from what Greg Barden told me) is sick. But not only that, he is facing numeous trials with his brother and his wife being in very bad shape. I have reached out to him since hearing of his horrible trials, but he has not responded to me since then, and I pray God will ease his burdens.

Connie Marcum Wong has a son who I believe is still in the hospital and who at one time was unconscious and expected not to live. I think he is on the mend, but Connie has undergone so many tragedies in a period of a few years.

I am adding on Demetrios right now (nov. 6) as I just heard word that he is hovering between life and death, from what Anne-Lise reports hearing about in her current blog she just posted. Urgent prayers needed for Demetrios.

I know there have to be many others here who are suffering horrendous trials, whether emotional, financial or physical. If you would like to, I hope you will let us know of people who need prayers or special concern. Those of you who pray, I hope you would pray for all our Soup members who face great hardships. Those of you who do not believe in prayer, I hope you can have kindness in your hearts for everyone who suffers with their own unique hardships.

I suppose "turn the other cheek" is not a thing that everybody here cares about. I have seen this time and time again demonstrated at blogs that have turned into miniature wars of name-calling, etc.  But at a time when the world seems to be filling more and more with chaos, my hope is that we can put aside any animosities we feel toward those whom we feel have wronged us or those whose opinions differ from ours.  It has been difficult for me also to have good feelings about those whose views are completely opposite my own, but all I can do is try to be kind nevertheless.

Nobody knows the suffering going on in the lives of those with whom we interact, either in person or on the internet. If someone angers me here, it affects me (we are all human, and that's just human nature), but I do not believe in actively pursuing any one person through my blogs or poetry to bring misery or shame to them. Well, that's all. Please, unless you care to leave good wishes or mention others in the comments who need our kind attention, just ignore my blog.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

I think maybe you misunderstood one little part of the blog. Greg Barden made me aware of Robert Lindley on FB. maybe that is what you are referring to when you say Gary Barden. Anyway, Thanks for your prayers, Darlene!!

It is a very nice gesture on your part, Andrea. We shall hope and pray that they would all get better. What ever the arguments, I bear no ill will towards anyone and I am sure most of us are the same! We are all too matured and seniors to let opinions divide good friendships! I am sure Pangie would recover fully, although physiotherapy can be a challenge but essential to regain full mobility. I wish her well and all the others you have so diligently listed to inform us of their plight! Let’s hope Christmas brings much cheer to all!

Thank you very much Andrea for this blog. I just spent an hour in prayer for all mentioned and many others. I know that prayer works. It saved my stepson and I am thankful for all who prayed for him. He is doing better and will be getting therapy to learn to walk again. He may be in the hospital as long as a year, but his attitude is wonderful. I thank everyone so much for the prayers, and for prayers for me and my daughter too. She is back at work and I am doing well. God bless all who need it. Love, Connie xxoo

Dear Andrea thank you for sharing this information that any of us can go through as well. Caring for your fellow human beings is what God commands us to do. So heartbroken to hear about my brother in Christ Demetrios, and Robert, and Pangie, Connie, Connies stepson., and those that are going through difficult times and don't share their grief with us. I will pray for my brothers and sisters and anyone else that request prayer. We will get through this together for we are a family here on the soup. God bless you for your kindness and love. Excellent blog, I share your sentiment, and often think of our colleagues whom suffer, and those that have passed on. Andrea, Thanks for the info. Yes regarding moods of our poets here on soup, there are always two sides to a story (behaviour), but we need to stay aware, of those trolls who come here for the sake of trouble making.

I love this comment you made, harry. The way people react to things always has roots in things that others can never fathom because it's not THEIR story to know. The reason I am the way I am, for example, has its origins in what modern medicine did that hurt me, and this shaped the way I react to things in the world today. Well, thanks for YOUR sentiments, my friend.
Date: 11/5/2021 7:29:00 PM
Andrea, you are the kindest and sweetest person in our community, always compassionate and giving. I think all would agree. Praying for all and especially those mentioned, Pangie, Robert and Connie. Let us wrap our arms around our fellow poets. We may not always agree with them but let love be the legacy of PS! I should be back on Monday. Thank you all for your prayers too.

Dear Andrea, your blog touches my heart so deeply. Robert and his family are going through so much. Many times he has reached out to me. A kind word is very much appreciated. I hate hearing about Pangie falling. I hope she isn't in too much pain. Sending her many healing hugs. Connie has been though so much as well. She has a wonderful heart. There are so many in need, and I am praying for all. Take care, my sweet friend. Hugs, Brandy

You must know very well about Robert then. If he reaches out to you, let him know I am thinking of him. I maybe overstepped my bounds by giving him advice about fighting cancer (for his dear wife) but she is not me, and I should have just given my sympathy and nothing more. What she faces is far greater than I ever did. So many are here with great sadnesses that we can't even know, so I hope when we learn of these things, we can go to these people and at least show them we care.

Hello Andrea - This is a sincere message and true concern for our poetry community and its members who have become friends and family. I knew of the heavy burdens of Connie to which she continues to be in my thoughts but I did not know about Robert or Pangie. No one of us escapes hard times of stress and heavy hearts be it financial physical emotional or any other pain that weights on us. I know this all two well how life can change in one moment without notice. I join you in wishing and thinking of members and their families at this time. Blessings health and peace to one and all. Thank you Andrea for informing us.

Andrea, thank you so much for this blog. I was unaware of these sad trials. This was so kind of you to post this and give such a heartfelt prayer to those whom are suffering. I will be spreading out my thoughts and prayers to all. Most of us here on the Soup have never met one another but it seems that through everyone's poetry we have gotten to know each other pretty well. We all have our differences and many of us agree to dis-agree with some, but to me, when it comes to life and death that all goes out the window. Sending luv...to all. ~CM
